Don't want to go with Effy as it reminds me of that girl from SKINS, but I have always loved Effie. Opinions? xxxx

I love it. I had a great aunt Effie. I assume she had a longer name but no idea what it was.

SprogletsMum · 04/12/2016 16:51

I love it

PotteringAlong · 04/12/2016 16:51

Makes me think of the hunger games!

Lovemylittlebear · 04/12/2016 16:52

I like it :)

Definite no from me. It sounds to me like a drab scullery maid's name. Or a muffled swear word.

ohidoliketobe · 04/12/2016 17:01

I have a friend named Effie. It's a lovely name. She does get a lot "what is it short for?" However

DanyellasDonkey · 04/12/2016 17:03

Reminds me of old ladies and in Scotland is short for the dreadful Euphemia

Gruffalosfriend · 04/12/2016 17:12

I like it.

Reminds me of Fontane's Effie Briest.

CleverQuacks · 04/12/2016 17:49

I love it.

sonlypuppyfat · 04/12/2016 17:59

I don't like any names that end in ie, maybe because I get shortened to Debbie which I loath. I like strong sounding girls names. I find they sound silly and twee

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 04/12/2016 18:00

Truly awful. Sorry!!

IAmNotACat · 04/12/2016 18:04

Makes me think of Take The High Road.

I don't dislike it but I think it needs to be short for something she can use as an adult if she decides Effie doesn't sound professional enough. What about Stefanie?

YoungBritishPissArtist · 04/12/2016 18:11

I really like it but tend to think of it as a diminutive, rather than a standalone name, iyswim. I've known two, they were both of Greek origin and it was short for Efthimia (sp?)

Coey2016 · 04/12/2016 18:11

I knew a lovely Effie so like the name because of her.

Jooni · 04/12/2016 19:51

I like Effie. It is sweet and cutesy but it sounds like that's the sort of name you're going for. There are plenty of cute, nicknamey names being given as full names at the moment for both sexes so I don't think it will stick out as being a "childish" name in thirty odd years.

JollyHockeyGits · 04/12/2016 21:35

Also makes me think of Take the High Road but if you're not in Scotland that probably wouldn't bother you!

I also prefer Aoife and Edith/Edie or Elsie.

squoosh · 04/12/2016 21:38

Was Effie the miserable old woman who always wore a hat?

ScarletForYa · 04/12/2016 21:38

It's very forgettable.

ConkerTriumphant · 04/12/2016 21:41

How is Aoife pronounced?

Groovee · 04/12/2016 21:42

Oi have works with a child called Effie. She really suited her name despite me thinking of Effie Mcinnes in Take the High Road.

OlennasWimple · 04/12/2016 21:45

I like it as a NN not as a full name.

You could go with something like Fiona or Felicity, but use Effie as a NN

OlennasWimple · 04/12/2016 21:46

Conker - the Aoife I know pronounces her name Ee-fer

NataliaOsipova · 04/12/2016 21:48

Makes me think of ballet - the girl in La Sylphide is Effie. Not sure what it's short for?

Pluto30 · 04/12/2016 22:11

I don't like it because it reminds me of "eff off" or "effing".

But I don't see the nickname aspect as being a problem. I know an Ettie in her 80s and that's her standalone name. It doesn't seem to have done her any harm.

I also know an Essie, and that's her full name.

I prefer both Ettie and Essie to Effie.
