Oh sorry just realised you are Spanish! Maximo as an alternative?

Anyway like you say he'd probably be known as Leo or Max so go for which of those you like?

We have similar taste Grin

TiggyD · 03/12/2016 16:44

Leonardo to be called Leo.

Must go now. I'm off for a Grande Hazelnut Maximilliano with extra cream.

Pinklily1 · 03/12/2016 17:33

Mateo is beautiful and I think it goes really well with your surname. I also like Leonardo.

MiniMaxi · 03/12/2016 19:02

OP for what it's worth I don't think Maximiliano is too long esp if you are using Max day to day. It's only an "o" longer than Maximilian! (I am biased as our little one is a Maximilian, usually known as Max Smile)

SoupDragon · 03/12/2016 19:38

Mateo is miles better.

SpeckledyBanana · 03/12/2016 19:40

Mateo is lovely.

Of Leo and Max, I prefer Leo.

Sophronia · 03/12/2016 19:55

Mateo is really nice

Marmighty · 03/12/2016 20:02

I like mateo because it's unlikely to be shortened, and you do have a long surname. Prefer max to Leo.

Pluto30 · 03/12/2016 20:22

OP, I hate having a four syllable name. Couldn't imagine having a 6 syllable name. Maximiliano is just too much.

Leonardo is nice. Leo is lovely.

Mateo is nice too. Smile

lexatin · 03/12/2016 20:30

I have a 73 thousand syllable first name (no, 5) and I can't say I've grown into all those syllables yet 45 years later

Dropmealine · 03/12/2016 20:30

I just thought ninja turtles. Leonardo better though.

Artandco · 03/12/2016 20:36

Every Spanish Max I know is Massimo or Maximo.

squoosh · 03/12/2016 20:44

I love Mateo. Because every Mateo I have met has been dreamy.

Leonardo is ok.

Maximiliano has way too many syllables for a first name.

iveabigsecret · 03/12/2016 23:17

Op I like all the names as I love names that reflect hertiage. Also I have name envy, we have lots of Spanish friends and I play fancy name our Spanish baby them as the names are so cool! (Although the ones I like I'm told are the equivalent to Spanish Nelson!)

However I digress, all names choices lovely however I think Mateo is my favourite as most likely to get used in full. Leo is probably my least favourite due to popularity with this shortening.

TimTamTerrier · 03/12/2016 23:34

I agree with squoosh, I've only met two Mateos but they were both lovely and handsome. Maximiliano makes me think of maxillary surgery, I think just because it's a long name.

Also, if you have a long surname, don't discount the possibility that too many letters might cause a problem filling in forms. When we moved country and I was registering the DC, I had to register DD without one of her middle names because there wasn't enough room on the computer system.

Jabuticaba · 03/12/2016 23:44

Leonardo or Mateo. But as someone else said Leonardo is pronounced differentry. Mateo is my favourite as I have a Mateus (Portuguese version), his nickame is Teu (tay-u).

I find Maximillano a bit odd. Maxwell or Maximo are nicer.

sonlypuppyfat · 04/12/2016 18:19

Proper long winded names

Jooni · 04/12/2016 19:45

Well I may be the lone voice here but I LOVE Maximiliano! Fab name, who cares if it's long? I'm sure he'll shorten it day to day if he wants to and this gives him a ton of options. FWIW I also love Maximo if you did want to go for a shorter version (don't think it's necessary though).

Mateo is also very nice.

Leonardo is my least favourite, but still a good solid name and Leo is a lovely shortening, if quite popular atm.

rainbow99 · 04/12/2016 19:45

Much prefer Mateo, but second is Leonardo. I don't like the other

SeveredPixieBits · 04/12/2016 19:52

Mateo for me.
Lorenzo is my favourite Spanish name.

Leonas · 04/12/2016 19:53

I really like Mateo - I would have loved to use it (be we are very Scottish and had girls in the end anyway!). I'm not as keen on the other two names but I do like Max as a nn
