Is Kester awful?

My hormone-addled brain can't decide if I love it or hate it. We are stuck for boys names because the only one I really loved I gave to DS1, so if this baby is another boy I'm stumped. DH is a Christopher and I think Kester is a nice nod to that but I'm not sure if it's a bit 'out there'?

Kester is awful.

Hamish and Hector, on the other hand are both brilliant names.

If you have to use Kester, maybe a middle name? Hamish Kester sounds quite good....

tinytoucan · 22/12/2016 23:45

I know a Kesta (female). I'd never heard of Kester for a boy but I quite like it. It's different without being too "out there"

BikeRunSki · 22/12/2016 23:47

I really like Kester.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/12/2016 18:41

Yes, it really is.
How about Kieran.

DameSquashalot · 23/12/2016 18:54

I love Hamish, Angus and Dougal.

Not keen on Kester.

BabyClam · 23/12/2016 19:01

I love Kester and it's DS's middle name.
I first saw the name in the Penelope lively book (The wild hunt of Hagworthy).
I cannot believe there is a serious suggestion for Olaf instead on this thread!

MikeUniformMike · 23/12/2016 19:10

Angus is great. Christopher abbrev. to Kit is good. Kester is nowhere near as good as Fester. Hamish is ok. Hector is a verb with not a good meaning.

ButteredToastAndStrawberryJam · 23/12/2016 19:16

Kester Woodseaves.

Riversiderunner · 23/12/2016 19:18

Yes

Anon, Jessica and Buttered...such great taste! Precious Bane is my favourite book ever.. takes you to a simpler time, and everyone should aim to have a Kester Woodseaves in their lives!

ViewBasket · 23/12/2016 21:45

Kester is much nicer than Kit IMO.

Kester is awful. Hamish not great. Hector is ok.....

albertcampionscat · 24/12/2016 20:34

I love it. You could put Christopher on the birth certificate I suppose.

JudgeJudySheidlin · 24/12/2016 21:19

Kester is a lovely sounding name but I'm not sure I like it written? I also considered this when my DS was born, however I was set on a particular name & that's the one we chose.

If you love it, go for it!

ToffeeAppleDragon · 24/12/2016 22:55

Love Kester - go for it

1horatio · 24/12/2016 23:13

Love Hector.
Keir is nice.

My computer keeps trying to change Hamish to hämisch... even when the language setting is English... weird. But I quite like the name.

I'm not a fan of Kester but it's nicer than Kit.

I also love Angus. And Algernon.

QueenLizIII · 25/12/2016 03:37

Hector is awesome

BikeRunSki · 25/12/2016 07:51

But the word hector means "to bully"!

neonrainbow · 25/12/2016 08:06

I like kester. Kit isnt a proper name. It's a type of bag or what you wear to do sports in, not a child.

sn0wne · 25/12/2016 08:23

Love Hector and Hamish. Not keen on Kester

1horatio · 25/12/2016 09:38

bike doesn't it mean "holding" ?

QuimReaper · 25/12/2016 09:47

I much prefer Kester to Kier!

I love Kestrel as a name too though, so my tastes are not very MN Xmas Wink

1horatio · 25/12/2016 11:09

Oh, I really like Kestrel! But I also like Corvus and Peregrine. And Aquila.

Bird names have something super cool and majestic, imo :)

I have no idea if my tastes are particularly mumsnett-y. But DD's name seems to have gotten a rather positive feedback. So, I guess...? Idk.
