My DP and I have got it down to 6. Wondering if anyone can help us get a bit further??

Names left are:
David
Gavin
John
Jonathan
Michael
Peter

As you can tell we like names that aren't used much anymore but are still well known. These are definitely our final 6. Thanks!!

None are to my taste really but I don't mind Michael or Jonathan .

Not Gavin.

sluj · 30/11/2016 08:30

I love all your names. I'd be a bit wary of Dave or Micky but love Mike or Pete.

If you live in the south you might get a local pronunciatiom of Peter which would grate on me. Imagine Danny Dyer saying "Peter" Smile

I have three brothers called Peter, Michael and John! I like all of those but not keen on David or Gavin.

NapQueen · 30/11/2016 08:35

Peter or Jonathan

TheWrathFromHighAtopTheThing · 30/11/2016 08:39

I love Jonathan/Johnny.

And Michael is lovely, totally underused.

Ilovewillow · 30/11/2016 08:40

Jonathan as it's versatile! Peters lovely too!

MoreBushThanMoss · 30/11/2016 08:41

Baby Gavin!!!

I have an Albert and my friend has a Stanley - the oldies are the best!

JosephineMaynard · 30/11/2016 08:42

I like Jonathan the best.

I agree that Gavin is very dated, it's very of the 1970's/80's to me.

Michael or Jonathan

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 30/11/2016 10:03

Much prefer Jonathan to any of the others.

ElizaDontlittle · 30/11/2016 10:07

I like Jonathan and Michael.
The 5 apart from Gavin are biblical, classical names and so I'd avoid Gavin for that reason.
Congratulations on your little boy Flowers

Maverick66 · 30/11/2016 10:19

Ds is called Jonathan but is known as Jonny . I love Jonathan but I also like it shortened to Jona

Mummymummymummyhi · 30/11/2016 12:01

Jonathan. Then he can be Jon, Jonny, Nath etc for short if he likes when he's older.

Flanderspigeonmurderer · 30/11/2016 12:03

Peter

ScarletSienna · 30/11/2016 12:06

Jonathan
Peter
Michael
David
John
Gavin

In order of favourite to least favourite. I think this age of names are due a comeback! I really like Jonathan and Peter.

enchantmentandlove · 30/11/2016 12:21

I really like Peter, not Gavin so much.

myoriginal3 · 30/11/2016 12:23

Michael

Sophronia · 30/11/2016 13:06

I love them all except Gavin. Strong, classic, underused names.

MiriAmmerman · 30/11/2016 13:50

In order of preference:

John (which I would definitely turn into Johnny Grin )
Michael
Peter
David
Jonathan

Gavin

The massive gap is deliberate - Gavin is nowhere near as nice as your other choices. I love how strong and traditional they are (particularly John and Michael).

Nospringflower · 30/11/2016 13:57

Not keen on any of this names but do like Jonny as a nickname.

goldenrachita · 30/11/2016 14:09

Micheal has always sounded unattractive to me- sorry!

My favourite is David. I'm always astounded such a nice sounding name is not used any more, especially after Beckham's popularity. (Just proves what I always say that no one actually names their kids after celebs, celebs just follow the same trends as the rest of us). Probably because of the 'Dave' thing. But I love it.

Second favourite is John- another great underused name that will really stand out these days. So simple and minimal that it sounds ridiculously cool.

Also like Peter. It sounds like a very Euro name to me and is used all over northern Europe which is a plus.

I don't like Gavin much. It has nice enough sounds, but it can be pronounced with a bit of an estuary drawl down South. Much better if you're Northern/Scottish though. If you're Welsh it might be a bit of a cliché?

Jonathan is classy. Nice.

Let us know what you pick!

plimsolls · 30/11/2016 14:11

I love Peter

Davey is a sweet nn for David

Jonny is a lovely nn for Jonathan

PunkAssMoFo · 30/11/2016 14:18

Michael or Jonathan are the best.

Although now that you mention it, I'd love to meet a baby called Dave.

CPtart · 30/11/2016 14:20

Like David, John and Michael. Peter is ok.
Don't like Johnathon (sounds a bit wet) or Gavin.
(Of an similar era and I know you don't want suggestions but I love Andrew and Christopher too).
