Boys names are so hard!

Still early days of pregnancy with Dc2, so hoping I'm not jinxing by posting.

Our DS is Thomas Benedict. He's been a Tom occasionally Tommy right from the outset. I still love it despite its popularity.

Girls names - we are relatively set on Tess. I love it, though do have the occasional wobble.

Boys names however are way harder. I love solid and strong boys names. However this time it would be lovely to have something less common. Nothing too quirky but maybe more unusual.

Names like Sam and Joe are out for family reasons.

Help appreciated.

DS2 is Albert nn Bertie if you like an old man name.

I really like Judd. Its more unusual round here than Jude. I also like Kit. My husband hated both so we have a Seb!

Jaimx86 · 26/11/2016 20:08

We're pretty settled on Jackson (Jack) or Zachary (Zach)

MarriedinMaui · 26/11/2016 20:13

How about Welsh or Scottish or Irish names? That way you can go for something solidly traditional, but less common.

Or go for traditional names that just aren't used much now

Ds1 is Conrad. Traditional yet underused imo.

Our DS2 is Conrad

Not many Richards about these days. How about Anthony, Eric, Craig, Iain, Glenn, Francis (non Frank), David, Edgar, Laurence or Peter?

kmini · 27/11/2016 07:05

Thank you for all your replies. I really love Christopher (nn kit), but my BFs husband is Chris and her youngest born after our Tom (I was fine with it) is also a Thomas. Just seems too similar family names, like we have no imagination.

If you name her tess hopefully she won't marry a Mr Tickle

lljkk · 27/11/2016 09:05

John. Can't get more unusual than that right now.

Wishfulmakeupping · 27/11/2016 09:08

I met an Albie the other day that's nice.
I know a Kit who is Kit and not as a nn for Christopher.
Gregory
Alistair
Charles
Henry
William nn Bill

PunkAssMoFo · 27/11/2016 11:34

Sebastian non seb goes nicely with Thomas.

AbsolutelyFabulously · 27/11/2016 12:32

Tess is gorgeous, really love it. Also love Thomas/Tom. Great taste.

The Tess/Tessa's I've known have brothers called Dominic, Hugo, Edmund. (And sisters Clara and Jane)

What about Wilfred nn Wilf? Albert nn Bertie? Arthur nn Art or Artie? George?

Or Kit by itself? My ds goes to nursery with 'just' a Kit, it really suits him.

AbsolutelyFabulously · 27/11/2016 12:38

Also second William, nn Bill above

kmini · 27/11/2016 13:00

I quite like a long name on the Bc, plus we have a shortish surname and simply to have something with a bit of formality. Tess would be Tessa and even the simplicity of that bothers me sometimes. Arghh I sound so high maintenance Grin

Kit it lovely, but just seems too short. Anyone know any other good shortenings? Christian feels to religious.

Tess - Theresa usually

leonardthelemming · 27/11/2016 16:54

Tarquin. Can't really shorten it though.
Cyrus (Cy)

JinCa · 27/11/2016 20:12

Tommy and Tess is fantastic! Hope you have a girlSmile.
Arthur or George both lovely if you want something traditional.
