Whats your thoughts? It sounds nice with our tricky surname and is difficult to shorten. I know it's a surname but I don't have an issue you that.

It feels made up.

SwedishEdith · 13/11/2016 11:35

Think Catcher in the Rye.

TuckFrump · 13/11/2016 11:44

It's the name of an Australian car manufacturer if that would bother you. Would be like naming your child Ford.

RockyBird · 13/11/2016 11:45

Like Amanda?

OurBlanche · 13/11/2016 11:46

Catcher...

user1470686892 · 13/11/2016 11:49

No Rocky like William.

My immediate thought was cars (it's the Australian name for Vauxhall) There are some fantastic holden cars though.

treaclesoda · 13/11/2016 11:51

I'd think Catcher in the Rye.

ElspethFlashman · 13/11/2016 11:53

Holden McGroin! Grin

user1470686892 · 13/11/2016 12:09

Honestly never heard of the Aussie cars, don't think many in the UK have so not an issue. I think the Catcher association is quite cool...at least it's not like the Exorcist one in a pp.

SausageSoda · 13/11/2016 12:11

First thought: Amanda

GinIsIn · 13/11/2016 12:11

I think everyone will associate with Holden Caulfield, and he wasn't the most pleasant of characters....

LarrytheCucumber · 13/11/2016 12:13

I assumed an Australian car fan too.

Chinlo · 13/11/2016 12:22

Catcher in the Rye.

user1470686892 · 13/11/2016 12:23

Will they really in RL? I doubt it. Can't see his school pals teasing him about a character in a book from the early 50's somehow.
Every name has a history, do Jacks get teased about the Ripper?

DomesticAnarchist · 13/11/2016 12:23

Clerks, surely.

The name will become the child. If you like it, go with it!

octoberfarm · 13/11/2016 12:25

FWIW, I quite like it. Unusual but it's a strong name, and none of the other associations people have mentioned stand out too much. If you like it, go for it!

AntiHop · 13/11/2016 12:28

My first thought is that it sounds like 'hold on'. Personally I'm not a fan of surnames as first names.

EllieMentry · 13/11/2016 12:29

I like it.

My first thought was Holden Caulfield but that's maybe showing my age!

GinIsIn · 13/11/2016 12:33

Catcher in the Rye is on the recommended reading list in schools so it's likely they would know who that was. Also, the name isn't just going to be used by his school pals. And Jack is an incredibly common name, so not quite the same as 'Holden'....

876TaylorMade · 13/11/2016 13:21

I think about the car company here in Australia...

I think of Holden as being only a surname so don't like it. Sorry!

user1470686892 · 13/11/2016 14:37

They will probably acknowledge he has the same name for about a day and that will be it, honestly can't see him getting any grief over it...you never know they just might think it's cool...I would have at 16.

WellErrr · 13/11/2016 14:46

Your child will be told 'Hold on!! Pahahahaha!' for the rest of its life.

It's a RUBBISH first name.

Bertucci · 13/11/2016 14:48

It reminds me of my ancient Holden Sunbird I had in Australia, and of course Holden Caulfield.
