Anything like Lettice? (But less saladi-ish)?

I don't like Letitia/Laetitia etc.

DH loves Lettice. He also suggested Annora/Honora.

I really like Angelica but DH hates it.

Maybe Samantha? Antonia? Maybe Philippa? Eugenie? I like them, but I just don't love them...

DD is 4/12...
I'd honestly appreciate every suggestion.

It's pronounced Dull-see

SpunkyMummy · 09/11/2016 20:22

First of all, thank you for all these suggestions.

Lots of potential for lettie as a. nn

SpunkyMummy · 09/11/2016 20:38

I really like Rowena, Keziah, Vivienne, Apolline and Oriana. And Serena :)

DH seems to like/be intrigued by the name Serena. It's currently on the maybe list. I think he's at the stage of... "that IS a lovely name. But do I like it enough to actually give it to our LO?"

We (most likely... probably) still have some time, seeing as the due date is the 4/12... and we already found a boy's name (I didn't want to know the gender).

And thanks again for all these suggestions.

And I also like Bernadette. It sounds very brave and strong.

Arlette? Colette?
Both could be Letty for short but are sufficiently interesting in their own right.

Biscuitsneeded · 09/11/2016 21:06

Paulette?

SpunkyMummy · 09/11/2016 21:58

The nn doesn't have to be Lettie. Not that it isn't cute and there would be a connection to Lettice. But DH's great aunt's nn wasn't Lettie, so the connection would be rather tenuous. I should have said that when I started the thread. Sorry...

I personally think Arlette and Paulette are the 'wrong' kind of old fashioned... Colette is cute. But not THE name. (Finding a name is a bit like wedding dress shopping, isn't it?)

But thank you for the suggestions :)

A few people have mentioned Cecily but I love Cecile. A different style but I also adore Elin (pn El as in elephant - in)

W8woman · 09/11/2016 22:31

Do you like Artemis? Sounds a little like Lettice and could have Etty or Ettie as a nickname.

Ineverpromisedyouarosegarden · 09/11/2016 22:40

I know a beautiful Darcie.

SpunkyMummy · 09/11/2016 22:40

Cecile sounds beautiful. I just don't like the meaning (blind). It's not that the meaning is incredibly important, but 'blind'...? Celestine/Celia however is lovely, so thank you for reminding me of that name.

Artemis is very pretty but just too far out there/too quirky imo. But there are many lovely Greek names. Maybe I should have a look at the 'Greek section' (on behindthename) again...

Linnet. Have loved that name ever since i saw it in david niven film. Same time period i think.

SpunkyMummy · 11/11/2016 09:48

That's a form of Lynnette, right?

That is a really cute name, thanks :)

No. Linnet is a bird. Like Robin. Lynnette is from Arthurian legend - from Eluned (pronounced El-INN-ed), often abbreviated to Lyn.

MaryTheCanary · 11/11/2016 13:38

Lucille

liquidrevolution · 11/11/2016 13:48

Linnet is pronounced lin-it. Its a lovely little bird.

ManonLescaut · 11/11/2016 13:53

I know a couple of Artemises but they're very posh - a plus or a minus depending on your perspective.

I really like Apolline - very unusual

I know a French child called Celestine - it's very sweet.

jobrum · 11/11/2016 13:59

Ottoline? Has the same feel as Lettice.

user1471468700 · 11/11/2016 14:04

Lettice? Can anyone clarify the pronunciation?
I know, I know, I am an uncultured swine!

QuimReaper · 11/11/2016 14:18

user it's like let-TEE-ce.

I used to know a Scarlett / Lettie.

There's also Harriet for Hattie / Hetty?
