Johanna ??

Thoughts on Johanna? I've never really considered it before but DH parents are called John and Jean & mine are John and Jane. We thought that it might be similar enough to be a nice nod to them?

What's your preferred spelling also? Joanna? Johannah? Johanna?

Middle name suggestions? So far we have Johanna Eden & Johanna Iris.

I've posted another thread about the difficulties we have agreeing on names.

I like it, but wonder if it's one of those names that will forever need to be corrected from Joanna to Johanna.

Would you use it as a middle name instead? That way your nod to the parents is there without it being the primary name.

Johannah will mainly be pronounced yo-Hannah as it is the Swedish spelling. If you want the j pronounced spell it Joanna.

Really dislike it. Boring and dated. I don't think I've ever known one who thinks, wow, what a gorgeous name I've got.

Will it? I was at school with Joannas and Johannas, both pronounced the same way.

I would pronounce Johanna Yo Hannah. Joanna is nice though

I'd spell it Joanna, and I think is is lovely and elegant. Joanna lumley comes to mind

If you don't want the H pronounced then I'd spell it Joanna. Lovely name.

I know a couple of girls called Johanna here in Ireland, and they both pronounce it Jo-Hanna.

In the UK I'd go for Joanna if that's the pronunciation you want.

I know of two Johanna's. They are both from Eastern Europeans countries and both pronounce their name Yo-hanna. Which I really love.

Johanna(h) and Joanna are different names.

Johanna/Johannah is Jo-Hannah; Joanna is Jo-Anna.

Otherwise, as others have said, Johanna(h) may get Yo-Hannah, as with the name Johannes.

So, if you want the pronunciation of Joanna, stick with that spelling. I like the name.

Yes, I though Johanna was pronounced Yo-hanna too. Isn't it the version of Joanna they use in Germany (and probably a few other countries)?

I like Joanna, has a nice sound and quite unusual at the moment. But somehow not Joanne though, which seems very much a name of its time (60s and 70s) to me.

I love it with the H pronounced, so I would spell it Johanna. I am Irish though, and I see I am not the only Irish person to make the distinction between Joanna and Johanna.

Joanna is very lovely too, imo.

I love the idea of honouring all the grandparents. They have lovely names. It's nice not to have to think of incorporating Tracey or Linda into a child's name...

Eden and Iris are both nice as middle names.

I love Johanna and would pronounce it Joanna though clearly I am wrong.

My middle name is Joanne and I really dislike it. It could have been improved by being Joanna but only marginally. Sorry for me I just find it really dull. I'm glad it's not my first name.

Joanna Eloise.

It is my name. It is pronounced Joanna, like it is for the other two people in England I know called this.

In 40+ years of being called Johanna only one person has ever called me Yohanna. No one has ever called me Jo-hanna.

The only slight drawback is that I have to say 'Johanna, that's with an 'h', J-o-h-a-n-n-a, if someone needs to write it down.'

I would expect it to be pronounced 'Yo-hanna' or 'Jo-hanna' ( I am from NI and have met Irish and continental people with this name, but never anyone from GB).

I think 'Johanna pronounce Joanna' is a bit 'Elle pronounced Ellie'.

It's one of my middle names and pronounced "Yohanna." Because it's German. I also have a Slav first name that no-one can spell or pronounce as well. Pesky foreigners!

Prince Philip had a beautiful little niece (one of his sisters' children) called Johanna who died of meningitis when she was only 2. It's a lovely name and it always makes me think of that lovely little girl.
