5 days old daughter - help us decide on her name

ruthietoothie · 02/11/2016 19:32

I had a little girl five days ago and am having a hard time deciding on her name.

We already have a boy and a girl (Liam and Katie) so it needs to be something that goes with that...

Current favourites are Nina or Josie, with other contenders Leah and Sadie.

She is a red head at the moment, and (if anything like other two will be strong willed).

What are people's preferences? Our surname is Bell if that makes a difference too?

tIA, sleep deprivation means making this decision feels crazy hard xx

update: little one is now eight days old and we STILL have not decided. Now down to two I think - either Sadie or Nina but so can't decide. Looks like might resort to tossing coins.

Any final views about which works better, with sister Katie and brother liam?

Sadie patricia bell

Or

Nina Patricia bell

Going to try try try and decide in next day or two

Have you tried using each name for a day to see how it sounds?

What do Katie and Liam think?

cheekyfunkymonkey · 06/11/2016 21:11

Oooh, Sadie's lovely!! Nina is nice but doesn't go with the other two, I really don't like Josie and Leah sounds old, most Leaha I know are in their 50's.

YuckYuckEwwww · 06/11/2016 21:11

I like Nina best, Sadie & Josie to me are pet/shortened versions of "real" names, Nina is more of a "real" name and doesn't sound pet-namey

ruthietoothie · 06/11/2016 21:19

Great idea to see what Katie and Liam think. We haven't talked to them about it at all... I was trying to call her Nina today and it does seem to suit her, but might try calling her Sadie tonight / tomorrow and see how that goes. my OH prefers Nina so perhaps I should be guided by that too.

Feels such a big responsibility naming her

If you love and are happy with either one then it could be a really nice idea to let her siblings decide (providing they can agree!) How old are they?

gratesnakes · 06/11/2016 21:48

You have a beautiful daughter. Nina is my favourite.

trinitybleu · 06/11/2016 21:53

Nina! And she's gorgeous, congratulations x

onedayimightforget · 06/11/2016 21:53

Just to throw a potential spanner in the works - what about Nadia? A combination of the two (sort of).

dailymaillazyjournos · 06/11/2016 21:54

Congratulations. She's adorable. I love Leah (biased, much) but think it doesn't work so well as a first name because of Liam. Really like Nina a lot and that works well with Liam and Katie I think. It's not a name that you hear a lot but isn't too out there and spelling and pronunciation easy.

ruthietoothie · 06/11/2016 21:55

Yeah, asking them good work so long as they agree. They're only little - four and three!! X

Sadie

kittylh · 07/11/2016 11:07

I wouldn't use Katie and Sadie together personally.
I'd go for Nina Patricia. Liam, Katie and Nina.

ruthietoothie · 10/11/2016 12:48

So... Think we have almost made a decision, Nina Patricia Bell,

But then my mum said it made her think of nee naw and combined with bell doesn't work.

What do people reckon? She's 12 days now and would be nice to name her :-) xx

Why not Josephine for the birth certificate but let DH use Nina as nickname for her....

When she's older she'll have so many options for shortening it if she wants...

onedayimightforget · 10/11/2016 13:57

What did Katie and Liam think?

I don't see the problem with Nina that your Mum does. I think it's a nice name.

TheWrathFromHighAtopTheThing · 10/11/2016 14:08

I think it's a lovely, lovey name.

ViewBasket · 10/11/2016 14:20

Nina isn't pronounced Nee-naw, so I can't see any problem there!

thegirlinthecar · 10/11/2016 14:23

Nina is a beautiful name . Congratulations btwSmile

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 10/11/2016 15:04

I agree with your mum I'm afraid! Nina is not pronounced nee-naw, I know, but the one & only Nina I knew as a child was teased in that way (by saying her name sounded like a police car - more nee-nar than nee-naw).

Of course, you may know 20 Nina's who have never experienced this. But the one I knew did, and that is what my mind jumps to. Also a distant elderly Aunt Nina, who used to pronounce it "niner" Confused. I think I only met her once, and at a very young age, but it has always stuck in my mind as not being a very nice name!

That said, if you & DH love the name then that's all that matters. The opinions of either strangers on the internet, or your DM, are secondary at best.

Congratulations on your new baby Flowers.

datingbarb · 10/11/2016 15:07

Josie for me also I love Josephine

Sadie just makes me think of a dog I'm afraid

ruthietoothie · 10/11/2016 15:11

Hah, this is so tricky. Interesting to hear of someone who was teased in playground for being called Nina.

Another idea I had was to call her Christina and then Nina for short. My oh's mum died a few years ago but she was a Christine so this would be partially in memory to her too..

It feels tough to make a decision. I am not sure about Josephine but do like Josie.

Thanks for thoughts everyone

christina is great, i like Christie for short too :)

onedayimightforget · 10/11/2016 19:00

Christina is really nice.

MyBootsAreMuddy · 10/11/2016 19:13

Christina is beautiful. I have a Christiana which is similar.
