Can we name our daughter Grace, or is our surname stopping us?

Our daughter arrived yesterday - a Halloween baby Wink we absolutely love the name Grace.

Our surname is Samuels-Grey (yes, we know it sounds like 'Samuel's grey')... We can't have a Grace Samuels-Grey, can we? Grin

Ivy Samuels-Grey sounds much better. Great name!

MitzyLeFrouf · 01/11/2016 16:35

And congratulations!

brokenbone · 01/11/2016 16:35

Gracie Samuels-Grey sounds better but I like the name Grace and don't think you should be put off because of your surname. I know a Karen Caron and a Joan Jones and also a William Williams and a friend of my mums is called Ann Kerr. If you love the name, use it. Don't settle for something you're not as fond about of. Congratulations xx

Ilovewillow · 01/11/2016 16:35

I think it goes very well together! Congratulations! Flowers

chowchowchow · 01/11/2016 16:35

I love lil miss GSG! Go for it, congratulations Smile

Fresta · 01/11/2016 16:36

Do you have to be called Samuels-Grey? I would think about changing that!

MitzyLeFrouf · 01/11/2016 16:37

I think Samuels-Grey is a lovely surname. Sounds very Bloomsbury Group.

TheProblemOfSusan · 01/11/2016 16:39

I think it sounds brilliant - love the surname too. Very glamorous!

EdenFalls2016 · 01/11/2016 16:39

Fresta - rude! Grin well, we preferred it to Grey-Samuels... Because it sounds better with our names!

I think it's a wonderful name - would look brilliant on the spine of a book (when she's a best selling author) or on the headed letter paper (when she is the CEO of a multinational corporation) Grin

RaptorInaWitchesHat · 01/11/2016 16:40

I like it Grin

I thought you were going to say your surname was Brothers or something.

HillaryFTW · 01/11/2016 16:41

Grace Grey-Samuels def wouldn't work.

Ivy S-G sounds lovely. Grace as a middle name?

R0bins · 01/11/2016 16:41

Love it - don't think there's anything wrong with it!

PeppermintPasty · 01/11/2016 16:42

It works for me. Very nice indeed. Congratulations.

Puddington · 01/11/2016 16:42

I actually think it's quite nice and I agree with Chicky Grin

TheOptimisticButtercunt · 01/11/2016 16:43

Oh oh Ivy!! Ivy Samuels-Grey is fabulous! Grin

Feilin · 01/11/2016 16:45

Grace sounds better than ivy to me!

Onenerfwarfrombreakdown · 01/11/2016 16:45

Since you've mentioned Ivy, OP, I think it's also very pretty and a bit less clunky/mouthful than Grace.

As she was born on Halloween you could try Eve? (All Hallows Eve) Grin

TheHiphopopotamus · 01/11/2016 16:47

Grace is a lovely name, but I don't think it works with your surname. The Grace and Grey sound too similar when said aloud, I think (I thought it was ok until I actually said it out loud to myself).

Ivy Samuels-Greyis gorgeous though!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 01/11/2016 16:48

I like it. Grace is a beautiful, yet simple name which I think works really well as your surname is fairly long.

EdenFalls2016 · 01/11/2016 16:48

We were going to have Autumn as a middle name, but it all sounds very clunky Grin obviously not with Ivy!

Thanks for the suggestions Smile

We liked Scarlett... Can you imagine Scarlett Grace Samuels-Grey GrinGrinGrin

Comiconce · 01/11/2016 16:49

Congratulations!! Flowers Both names sound fab to me.

I'd snuggle up to her and call her Grace and Ivy in turn to see which one she seems more like Grin. That's how dd1 got her name. And for dd2 it excluded the name we had chosen because it simply didn't seem to fit her Smile.

BikeRunSki · 01/11/2016 16:49

It sounds fine, but Grace is a very hard name to live up to if you are not graceful.

Comiconce · 01/11/2016 16:50

Cross post.. I can imagine Scarlet Grace Samuels-Grey. Has quite a ring to it Smile

RiverTam · 01/11/2016 16:50

Oh, I love Scarlett (I'll admit to not actually being a fan of the name Grace). And I think Scarlett Samuels-Grey trips of the tongue better than Grace Samuels-Grey.
