Jemmy or Jemmie?

This name is decided, so I really do not want opinions on it.

I'd really just like to know which spelling you prefer??

Is it fit a girl or a boy?

Jemmie looks feminine. Jemmy could be either. Just my opinion.

Motherfuckers · 29/10/2016 04:02

Girl or boy? I think I prefer Jemmie, but that looks very feminine, so you may not want that if boy.

bedsidequick · 29/10/2016 04:03

For a girl Smile

Well, jemmy is actually a word (verb), so I think Jemmie is better.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/10/2016 04:12

Jemmy is a tool.

So Jemmie

bedsidequick · 29/10/2016 04:13

Oh thanks!

You don't think Jemi or Jemmi is better do you?

Definitely not Jemi. And not Jemmi either (the whole -i thing is a bit 90s, like Kelli and Madi).

Just Jemmie is best. Smile

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/10/2016 04:17

Jemi looks too much like a boys name. We have several male friends called Jem (Jeremy)

bedsidequick · 29/10/2016 04:20

Cool, seems like Jemmie is the way to go then!

Jemmie

cece · 29/10/2016 08:39

Gemmie?

stonygreysoil · 29/10/2016 08:39

Jemmie.

I know you said its set but you wouldn't consider sticking Jemima or Gemma on the BC?

cece · 29/10/2016 08:41

EssentialHummus · 29/10/2016 08:42

Jemmy looks less made up imo. Please consider an actual name.

GinIsIn · 29/10/2016 08:44

May we ask why you are so set on something that's not a name? A Jemmy is the thing burglars use to break into houses, so whichever way you spell it it's not a great thing to name your child! Hmm

Marilynsbigsister · 29/10/2016 08:58

The thing is, that despite you wanting this name, it is familiar to most as a verb - 'to force open' .

Whilst you may love it - bear in mind it won't be you who has to be called it for life.
A fairer compromise would be to call her by an actual name like Gemma or Jemima and then you can call her Jemmie as your special nickname for her, without saddling her with the name of a crowbar used for burglary on official documents.
It will also avoid her being exposed to ridicule as she gets older. School/peers etc.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 29/10/2016 09:01

Jemmie.
OP, Marilyn is right.

Marilynsbigsister · 29/10/2016 09:06

If you did opt for Jemmie as a nickname instead of an official name, this compromise will also allow you DD to 'lose it' if she doesn't like it, simply by asking you to stop. Whereas she will have to go to the entire faff of a deed poll change if it's made official.
The other compromise is to give her a middle name, that she may choose to be known by if she objects to your invention. My dbfr has always been known as her middle name because her 60s hippie parents gave her a bonkers first name. (Won't say here - it's so bonkers that it will definitely out me !)

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 29/10/2016 09:16

Jammy Jemmy

SausageSoda · 29/10/2016 13:52

I'll restrain from giving an opinion and just say Jemmie.

Vixxfacee · 29/10/2016 13:54

I read it as jeremy when I first looked.

AuntieStella · 29/10/2016 14:12

Of the two, I prefer Jemmie so it's a bit less burglarious.

But like others, I think this is one crying out for a 'forma'l version, with Jemmie as a nn.

theveryhighlife · 29/10/2016 14:19

Agree that Jemmie should be used as a nickname. My name also has an alternative meaning, which my parents didn't know when they named me. They wanted 'something different' I hate my name and find the association humiliating.
