Can we name our son Noah? :(

Noah is my favourite name (has been for years) and DH's!

Our surname is a profession (I suppose?) so it sounds like "know a..." :(

The thing is, both names are rarely said together!

Should we go for the name we love?

Noah Sailor does sound a bit like a Carry On joke unfortunately.

This is Noah Sailor

Oooh...Missus! I know a sailor!

Elliot Sailor is absolutely lovely though.

Why did someone say homophobic remarks?

WeArePregnant11 · 28/10/2016 17:56

roy huh? Homophobic? Well, I didn't see that.

I like Noah Sailor. If kids want to bully someone then they will find something...

BreatheDeep · 28/10/2016 18:10

I think there's two possibilities for teasing with Noah Sailor - constant references to arks etc; and 'know a sailor' wink wink nudge nudge. So I personally wouldn't do it.

WuTangFlan · 28/10/2016 18:24

Three possibilites - it also sounds like "no ass sailor".

WeArePregnant11 · 28/10/2016 19:08

No ass sailor? Isn't that a bit far fetched? Maybe Noah's sailor...

Noah is a lovely name. I honestly don't think Noah Sailor is bad.

Dontrocktheboat · 28/10/2016 22:56

I think it doesn't work, just because Sailor is a very unusual surname compared for example to Taylor, which I think you could get away with. Elliott Sailor sound better.

Ptarmigandancinginthegloaming · 28/10/2016 23:06

Elliot sailor => el yacht sailor - but that doesn't seem the sort of word pun kids would use to tease, too complicated...
If kids are keen to tease they will find something tho, I'm afraid 'Sailor' could become 'Soiler', among some mean kids, whatever the Christian name :-/.

WuTangFlan · 29/10/2016 07:58

Noah's sailor and no ass sailor sound the same to me... maybe it's regional accents.

Rarotonga · 29/10/2016 08:38

No I don't think you can... We have a similar issue, our surname is a profession and a verb too. Noah is out, as is any first name beginning with I, as it would be 'I + verb' when ever you say the first initial and surname. We love several names beginning with I but we can't use them, so annoying!
At least there are plenty of other lovely names to choose from!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 30/10/2016 07:19

DH went to school with a Ryan O'surname, for example O'Neill. No-one realised it sounded like Rhino Neil until they were adults!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/10/2016 15:55

Sailor!. Great last name. I wouldn't put Noah with it though.
Elliot Sailor is lovely
