Our DS1 is Billy (William) and the only name we can agree on is Elliot Sad we are registering him on Tuesday!

OP posts:

Ellison is a lovely boys name, have never thought of this before! It's now on my list :)

PoppyPicklesPenguin · 21/10/2016 23:30

Sorry I didn't add anything to the original OP - think it would be ok, if DC is actually known as William

Florathefern · 21/10/2016 23:32

Honestly? I wouldn't name him Elliot.

I know you didn't ask but what about Ethan? It is the same vibe and sort of similar?

Meadows76 · 21/10/2016 23:33

I would do it. Introduce them as Elliot and billy.

scrivette · 21/10/2016 23:39

I think it would be okay.

CoolCarrie · 21/10/2016 23:42

My dh cousin has two boys, Edmond and Edgar, which reminds me of King Lear every time they are mentioned, but Elliot is a lovely name, so go for it.

QueenLizIII · 21/10/2016 23:43

Your eldest is called William. He may outgrow the NN billy and choose will or.something else.

If you like Elliot just do it. They wont always be a pair.

bostonkremekrazy · 21/10/2016 23:45

Ellis
Elijah
Eli

QuimReaper · 21/10/2016 23:47

I used to know a Lily Potter (!) who named her son Harry(!!!!)

Turned out she was married but kept her maiden name for work purposes - but when she announced the birth of her son Harry we didn't half do a double take!

We and everyone else got over it, and I daresay a kid called Harry (sort of) Potter is more striking than two kids called Billy and Elliot.

It's fine.

SansasEscape · 21/10/2016 23:49

Way too weird. Keep trying. Is this the last possible date to register him?

ftw · 21/10/2016 23:50

You have to be ready for people to comment every single time you meet new people and for them to think they're the first.

If you're up for that, go for it.

Chinlo · 22/10/2016 00:21

If you love the name enough not to care about the inevitable jokes, then I would just do it. Like somebody said, it's an old film now anyway.

SansasEscape · 22/10/2016 00:30

Yeah its an old film, but its so famous. Its on TV regularly and the stage show does the rounds often. Its not fading into obscurity.

I truly believe that whether or not you don't mind doesn't matter. It is whether your kids mind, and you just can't know that.

Pluto30 · 22/10/2016 03:47

Hmm. I probably wouldn't do it.

How about:
Everett
Emmett
Elias

pontificationcentral · 22/10/2016 03:56

Ha. I know someone with a Tom and a Harry. I've known them for ten years. And until I read this thread it had never even occurred to me.
On that basis, just do it. Billy and Elliot is fine. It's a fairly mild connotation as they go.

Spring2016 · 22/10/2016 03:58

Lewis?

NightWanderer · 22/10/2016 04:00

This thread is so funny. It's like having a conversation with my mum. I didn't think the OP was that hard to understand.

I think it's fine. I later realised that when I said 2 of my DC's names together it made a word so I'm careful to say it the other way round.

Katedotness1963 · 22/10/2016 04:26

It's the middle of the night so I've gone to the bathroom so I can say it out loud. And I still can't see what's wrong with Billy and Elliot. Confused

VenusRising · 22/10/2016 04:35

Billy Elliot .... from Everington.

Every person you meet will have a laugh at your boys, and not just to your face. They will all think they're the only ones to have the joke so if you're up for joke after joke go ahead.

I'd think again.

Miles is quite a nice name if you're looking for tall "L" and "I"s in the name.

Try Edisson for size. Or Harris, Leonard, Ignatius, or Jared?

AmeliaJack · 22/10/2016 04:40

Kate think ballet dancing...

purplefox · 22/10/2016 04:49

I love the name Elliot but I wouldn't use it with Billy.

Elon, Edison, Ellerick, Ephram, Emerett, Emerson Emmett, Elwood, Otto, Brett have a similar "vibe" to them.

seven201 · 22/10/2016 04:57

I think people will have a little laugh but so what. Would you mind the constant comments? If not then just do it.

flumpybear · 22/10/2016 05:56

Just call them Elliot and billy when referring to them - I'd definitely go for Elliot it's a lovely name

daisiesinherfootsteps · 22/10/2016 06:10

I know someone with a Bill and a Ben. I thought it sounded vaguely funny the first time and then forgot all about it.

I'm usually the first to point out to posters on this forum about the teasing potential of name choices but I just don't see it here. The age gap big enought that they wont really be doing activities as a pair and classmates are unlikely to know of the brother.

Plus I'm not sure kids will be that familiar with an old movie/stage show. Only adults make find it vaguely amusing and then they will move on.

Go for it. Elliot is a lovely choice.

CheerfulYank · 22/10/2016 06:32

I haven't even seen it and thought of it so maybe not, but...I don't know!

This sort of thing has stopped me before, twice when trying to name the same boy! Once was, oddly, the same name...Elliot. But we didn't use it because our older DS is called Sam, not Billy. :o I also loved Jack, and Dawson is a family name but people were mixed on whether or not Jack Dawson Surname would get Titanic jokes.

We went with neither and named DS2...William :o He's Will though, not Billy. (Well truthfully most of the time he's Bubba Blush )
