Hugo - really like.

Thomas - ok.

Samuel - please no. There are loads of them road here...I'm starting to think of it as another word for 'boy'.

Hugo is the one that stands out for me, a great name.

Samuel is part of the "grumpy old gits" name revival going on just now, but isn't too bad, and Thomas is just bland and ordinary.

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 17/10/2016 17:24

I'm close to the English/Welsh border too and I know many, many Sam/Samuels.

longlistsister · 17/10/2016 17:24

Thomas
Don't like Hugo

thegirlinthecar · 17/10/2016 17:28

I really like Samuel , love Sammy as a nn for a toddler . I equally like Thomas nn Tommy ... I see a pattern here . Both great names ! Hugo I could take or leave

RalphSteadmansEye · 17/10/2016 17:28

Hugo is great. Also love Hugh.

The other are a bit ordinary. I marginally prefer Thomas (Tom).

takesnoprisoners · 17/10/2016 17:29

Samuel. I just love that name.

NameChange30 · 17/10/2016 17:33

Samuel - love it

Thomas is OK but such a common name, especially for my generation (born mid-80s) so it's likely that he'll have the same name as lots of his friends' fathers!

Hugo - I'm not a fan, don't like the way it sounds and also find it a bit posh, although that's not the end of the world.

What are your other DCs called?

I don't think so. It was in the top 10 from 1991 to 2005 and has been in the top 20/30 ever since then too. It's been fairly popular for a while.

Surely these threads are about emotional responses to names, rather than statistics?
The OP asked for opinions, and that is what I gave her.

Though I am impressed that you know the statistics for the last 25 years. Grin
