Samuel is my favourite, closely followed by Thomas. They are both lovely, classic, simple and strong, with good options for nn (Sam, Sammy, Tom, Tommy)

Hugo is garish. It just reminds me of a stuck-up, too-posh-to-comprehend, daddy-pays-for-everything, private-school-boy. Not a good impression to get just from a name.

WaitrosePigeon · 17/10/2016 12:41

I absolutely love Hugo.

mycatstares · 17/10/2016 12:42

I love Hugo!
Like samuel
Hate Thomas, just reminds me of that stupid train!

Honeybee79 · 17/10/2016 12:54

I would go for Thomas over Samuel but both nice. I would avoid Hugo.

SorenaJ · 17/10/2016 13:09

All are such lovely names. If I were to rank them it'd be Hugo first, Thomas, then Samuel.

Pipilangstrumpf · 17/10/2016 13:55

What's wrong with 'posh' though Confused?

clumsyduck · 17/10/2016 13:59

If I have to pick just from them then

Samuel
Then
Thomas

Not Hugo but only because around here it would be considered very posh but I guess it depends were you live !!

Sophronia · 17/10/2016 14:10

Thomas is lovely. Don't like Hugo.

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/10/2016 14:49

Samuel. Never met a Sam I didn't like.
Thomas is a bit dull but perfectly acceptable etc.

Don't like Hugo at all.

WaitrosePigeon · 17/10/2016 14:59

Nothing wrong with posh, just like there's nothing wrong with common.

Not sure it's okay to say things as stuck up, too posh to comprehend, daddy pays for everything all that shit but then people get pissy about the word chav.

It's okay to dismiss certain types of people on MN.

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/10/2016 15:04

There is a bit of a difference between posh and chav though. Posh is seen as a positive thing for many people. On here for example posters look for help trying to find 'posh names'. Whereas chav is only really used as a pejorative term.

A bit like skinny and fat. Not nice to use either as a slur but skinny has positive connotations in our society that fat just doesn't.

Foxtato · 17/10/2016 15:06

Not keen on any of the names
but if I had to choose, Samuel.

WaitrosePigeon · 17/10/2016 15:06

Still really doesn't make it okay though. I've done enough arguing over words the last 24hrs I can't do it again. Check out site stuff.

WaitrosePigeon · 17/10/2016 15:07

That sounded snarky, didn't mean it to sound like that - sorry Flowers

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/10/2016 15:09

Don't be silly, it's fine. I haven't read the thread you're referring to but I know that this place can really boils one's piss from time to time! Smile

heron98 · 17/10/2016 15:20

I love the name Sam.

Hugo is awful.

Thomas is OK.

hollyisalovelyname · 17/10/2016 15:26

Tom or Sam

WaitrosePigeon · 17/10/2016 15:29

Ah thanks Mitzy, love to you Cake

TempsPerdu · 17/10/2016 15:30

Probably Thomas by default, but I can't get excited about any of them. Thomas and Samuel both fine - classic, won't date as consistently popular, inoffensive, straightforward, friendly-sounding, nice nicknames. Just a bit dull!

I'm afraid I can't stand Hugo. Until recently it was a stereotypically 'posh' name (and not in a good way imo - makes me think of a ruddy-faced, tweed-suited bully). Now it's suddenly become popular I can see it going the same way as Oscar, becoming ubiquitous until everyone's bored of it and then falling out of favour again.

MotherDuckSaid · 17/10/2016 15:30

Oooh so mixed, dnt think there's a clear favourite!
Every day I change my mind!
Dsnt help that each of our other children have a different preference ! :-/

I do like Eugene, Elton, Rupert & my OH likes Ralph , but we figured he may like a more 'boring' name, as growing up can be pretty hard as it is 😅
