Ana?

She is already this to me in my head - for some reason I just prefer the Spanish spelling Ana rather than Anna (it does have meaning to us). I know that she will probably having people assume it's spelt Anna, but I don't think that's the end of the world.

Your thoughts please?

Anna = ah-na

In Frozen Anna is said On-ah, the American way. I imagine Ana might be said similar.
Though where I come from A is a long vowel so it's Aah-na.

I've grown up with a misspelt name and I got no end of spellings and pronounciations

I prefer the Latin spelling too and would pronounce it the same as Anna.

However, it is usually used as part of a double first name, such as Ana Clara, Ana Luisa, Ana Carolina, etc. so to me it looks a little strange as JUST Ana.

I did see that when I searched it on here stealth, but I'd not seen it before. Hmmm.

It is quite easy to just say "Ana with one N" though.

Ana has very negative connotations, especially the Pro-Ana websites which encourage girls to follow anorexica as a lifestyle choice

As a single name it looks lonely. Anna is more complete as a name. Ana for me needs to be doubled with Clara, Maria, Luisa etc.

I don't think anyone would say O-na in the USA, I think it is said that way in Frozen to sound Scandanavian.

I've seen the pro-ana thing before but wouldn't immediately associate it if I saw the name Ana. I think it's very very pretty.

As I always say on threads like this, life can be difficult enough- why do something that will make your child's life more difficult- even if it's just a tiny bit more difficult? Having to say "Anna but with one n' every single time for 80 years will be more tedious than you can imagine. And it's not as if people will get it right 50% of the time like Ann and Anne- they will get it wrong every time

Just go with Anna. It's a beautiful, uncomplicated name! I've never met one who wasn't simply lovely either!

I think people will get used to the Ana spelling. I have lived in Spain and almost used Ana-Belen for dd. I was a bit worried Belen would sound like bellend to British ears.
