We are debating if we should go with Simon or Paul??

OP posts:

Simon. Lovely classic name.

I'd go Peter rather than Paul, but I always prefer two syllable names.

David also lovely. Matthew even better.

mamalovesmojitos · 25/09/2016 18:16

I like both. Probably less Simons around though, so I'd edge towards that.

greenfolder · 25/09/2016 18:17

Mark or Ian

Caldini22 · 25/09/2016 18:28

I'm not majorly keen on either but think Simon would go better with Amanda (which I like - know a very lovely Amanda)

daisiesinherfootsteps · 25/09/2016 18:36

I find it hard to imagine a baby Paul or Simon but I think it would work as they get older. Both are decent names but I prefer Paul.

SpidersFromMars · 25/09/2016 18:39

I prefer Simon. In the same category, I like names, David, Matthew, Mark, Nicholas, and Peter.

Simon. I've always loved it, it's my youngests middle name.

Paul just sounds boring and dates to me (and I know it's the same sort of name is Simon, so that's completely irrational!)

0pti0na1 · 25/09/2016 18:57

I prefer Paul, although they are both solid Biblical names that will be due a comeback at some point. The question is, is now the time? Actually I think it could be.

Ikeameatballs · 25/09/2016 18:59

Simon

BlasianFashionista · 25/09/2016 19:02

Sorry I don't like any Blush

everythingis · 25/09/2016 19:04

Neither. My exh is Paul but I dated a Simon who then moved to Prague to run brothels. Yuck

MadisonAvenue · 25/09/2016 19:12

Simon if I had to choose one but there are so many much nicer names.

Some retro 70s/80s names work but there are many which don't and I think Paul and Simon are the latter. My son has a 16 year old friend called Gary. First thing we asked when he mentioned him was "How old is he? 40?"

GoNorthDarren · 25/09/2016 19:58

Neither are really my cup of tea tbh but I do think Simon is quite nice. I like S names! Not keen on Paul.

Joinourclub · 25/09/2016 19:59

I prefer Art or Garfunkle

Miiow · 25/09/2016 20:12

Either! I love both of them. If pushed I'd choose Paul.

Funnily enough my DC4 (now aged 19) has a Paul, a Simon AND an Amanda in her kindergarten class (overseas)

Amanda is a fab name.

Dizzybintess · 25/09/2016 20:14

Never met a nice Paul so Simon all the way x

dlnex · 25/09/2016 20:21

Simaul
Paumon

if undecided

Miiow · 25/09/2016 20:23

Klee, Gauguin and Cézanne are all Pauls. It's an artists name.

I don't know any mean Pauls.

CormoranStrike · 25/09/2016 21:36

Both lovely names, and so much nicer than the old man names, definitely due a revival.

albertcampionscat · 25/09/2016 21:58

Simon.

Simmi1 · 25/09/2016 23:50

It's funny because certain 70s/80s names are still popular - e.g. Thomas and James. Certain names are not though -e.g. Simon, Paul, Andrew, Steven, John. These sound dated.

Every little boy at the moment is Alfie, Archie, Oscar, Oliver, Joshua, Ethan...

Simmi1 · 25/09/2016 23:52

I know someone who recently called her daughter Caroline - this also sounded odd amongst all the Amelias, Charlottes, Bellas and Olivia's!

Seekingmiracles · 26/09/2016 00:21

NEITHER!!! I'm in shock so many people actually like either of them. They're both middle aged men names and not in good way. May as well also consider Malcom or Keith!

Seekingmiracles · 26/09/2016 00:25

And my dad is a Paul and a complete tosser!

MadisonAvenue · 26/09/2016 01:23

Seeking Someone was considering Malcolm on here recently and had mostly positive responses! Hmm
