Can anyone help me with name regret and possible nicknames?

I have a lovely 2 year old called Clara. I have never been quite happy with her name, in fact I am getting less content with it as time goes on. If I could find a nice nickname/shortening for her, I think that would help - any ideas? Thank you!

I used to know a Clarissa who was known as Clarrie - I really like it and think it is a cute name for a toddler. Clara is a lovely name btw

Sophronia · 20/09/2016 15:04

Clarrie is quite nice

Cece
Lara
Clarabelle/Clarabella (Belle/Bella)
Clarina (Rina)

CourtJester · 20/09/2016 15:17

I adore Clara too :)

Possible nn could be - Clay, Class, Cee, Lara, Larrie

ElvenMoonwings · 20/09/2016 15:59

I think Clarrie would be the obvious choice and it's pretty.

Or adapt it to Clarissa.

You could always change it legally and I would do so rather than hesitate if you need to in order to be comfortable and happy.

MadAsABagOfCats · 20/09/2016 16:03

Call her Lara. I know one and she's lovely Smile

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 20/09/2016 16:04

I met a Clara once whose family and friends called her Panda, haven't a clue why.

caffelatte100 · 20/09/2016 16:07

Love Clara, Clarissa is a very classy... Carrie also works.

Coco adn some of the other names maybe won't be as good when she grows up.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 20/09/2016 16:07

Clarrie is really sweet - it doesn't to have to be related though, I know a Topsy and a Bunny Grin

At home (NW) I'm called Tilly a lot, but it's not related to my name, it's just something you can call a little (or not-so little in my case!) girl.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 20/09/2016 16:10

I know a Dottie/Dot too, who's actually called Rebecca - she was tiny when she was small and was always referred to as "a little dot" by her family.

So you could really call her anything Grin

Canyouforgiveher · 20/09/2016 16:12

I love Clara and would have considered it for one of mine. I have only met one ever (she would be 20 now) and I live in a world of pretty names like Emma/Alex/Emily.

I'd start calling her Clarrie or Clary which is also pretty but I think you will end up glad you called her Clara.

Lilacpink40 · 20/09/2016 16:15

Cassie or Clarrie would be sweet nn.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 20/09/2016 18:04

Clarrie is nice, and in keeping with her name.

Bathsheba · 20/09/2016 18:53

I know a Clara and I've called her ClaraBella since she was born

Ledehe · 20/09/2016 18:54

Aww I have a Clara. I call her Clalala. So not really shortened

MotherDuckSaid · 20/09/2016 20:28

i changed my youngest's name just before they turned two, took her two days to respond to it, no1 calls her by her previous name now , a couple of months on.
My family thought it was a bit odd, but im so glad i did it, i had grown to really hate th name and it just ddnt suit them !

Yika · 20/09/2016 20:31

Callie?

It's got the C, A and L.

I don't think it matters if the nickname is only loosely related really.

Clara is lovely though as is Clare/Claire.

You could always start pronouncing it Claire-a (I assume it's Clah-ra) to distinguish her from others.

bringbackfonzi · 20/09/2016 20:42

Thanks, guys, for your ideas and research (!), I am finding this really helpful. Torn now between calling her Clarrie, or Carrie (which I still prefer), or thinking up something completely different for a nn. ledehe that's funny, I call mine Clalala too sometimes. But I need a proper nn other people can call her, not just her soppy mum!

Clarrie is niceSmile

sidonie1 · 20/09/2016 21:40

I think Clara is just beautiful! Really gorgeous name.

sidonie1 · 20/09/2016 21:42

Meant to add...not helping with nns but just to encourage you!

QueenLaBeefah · 20/09/2016 21:43

Clara is a lovely name so stick with it.

Your DD is 2 and will know herself as Clara - you can't just change it because you don't feel it is quite right. That's not really how nicknames work.

katemess12 · 20/09/2016 21:59

Coco was my first thought. Smile

Hulafox · 21/09/2016 04:50

I think it's a lovely name. We chose Carla and haven't ever regretted it.

I love Carrie too. I know 2 people who changed their daughters names after 10 weeks - you can amend the registration up to a year I think.

Hulafox · 21/09/2016 04:53

Sorry - just reread and realised she is 2 - I'm getting confused!

Cocochoco · 21/09/2016 05:47

I adore Clara!

If you like Carrie more than Clarrie, go for that. Or what about Carly?

I like Coco and CeCe, too
