Welsh names

Ok, after my last total failure here, I'm returning with the second draft of girls names. All Welsh as we seem to agree they are nice and DH is Welsh.

What do you guys think of the following for a girl:

Angharad
Arianwen
Ceridwen
Deryn
Rhian
Seren

Too weird? Too hard to say?

For a boy we have:

Morgan
Dylan
Aled
Emrys

And on a related note, does anyone know of a decent app for recording baby names? Trying to keep my list in one place and my phone seems good.

whereas in England it tends to be pronounced Moh-gun.

Moh-gun? I don't think I've ever heard it pronounced like that, always More Gun. Unless that's what you meant...

Is Angharad just Ang (like rang) harrad?

And how is Ceridwen pronounced?

I do love Welsh names :)

Yes I'm very sorry- More-gun is exactly what I was aiming for but got it very wrong Blush!

Angharad is pronounced just like you've written it, it's a really lovely name and quite popular round this area.

Ceridwen is pronounced Cer (as in the start of the word Ber-ry) id (to rhyme with it) wen (to rhyme with pen)

We live in Scotland, not England, which may make it more awkward. Grin

I've been sitting here muttering "Mow gun. More Gun. mow Gun". :o

I think I pretty much had Ceridwen right, albeit in a south London accent :)

Don't forget Ifan for a boy! Good for a first or middle name (I have one!)

Tabsicle you're golden, then. Tell everyone they're Welsh names and I really don't think you'll have a problem.

Also in most Scottish accents the letter r is trilled properly, so Morgan, for instance, would sound just fine, if you emphasise that it's not "more-gun" as in the English pronunciation but mo (lwith a short o as in 'not') + a trilled r + gan (like 'can', 'dan'). Same with Angharad - Ang (as in 'sang') + har (again trilled r) + ad (short a as in 'had').

I have a daughter Angharad and it annoys the life out of her when people manage the Ang-har bits and then end it with -ud.
