Would most likely have middle name of Cerys.

Gemma. Chavvy, sorry
Amy. Is beautiful very pretty and elegant
Abigail is okay, but. Do you like Abbie, because. That is what she'll probably be known.

Amy is my favourite & would be great with Cerys.

I prefer Abigail to the other two and love Abigail Cerys

Thanks! I like Gemma but did wonder if people thought it chavvy...just threw it into the mix this evening and to my surprise my husband really likes it! I don't know any baby Gemmas and not really sure whether it's a bit 80s!

She would be sister to a Matthew and Lucy, and thinking about it Amy or Abigail may flow better.

I've a friend wth a 6 year old the same and at my sons nursery in his class there is a little 2 year old girl shortened to Gail

I've another friend who is shortened to Abi.

I have an Abigail so I'm biased. We liked Abi as a shortened version from the start.

Don't mean to offend any Gails, sorry! Just don't think of it as a little girl's name. But I'm hoping people would follow our lead when it comes to any shortening of the name.

I don't know any Abigails or Amys (know shed loads of Isabel/Isabellas, Olivias, Amelias etc), so like the fact they're not really popular (in our area, at least). We really want a name that will see them through life (ie can be cute as a child but also sensible when they become a real life grown up).

We were discussing it over dinner and just couldn't reach a decision, so I said I'd ask the MN collective to critique. He is somewhat baffled!

I like Cerys better than the others. Out of the three you've listed, Abigail is my favourite and Gemma least favourite.

I'd choose Gemma - I know three (aged 20ish - 50ish) and they are all three lovely, which biases me in favour. But as well as that I think it's a good strong name for a girl/woman, and will stand out among the sea of Daisy/Poppy/Evies.
Abigail would be 2nd place for me, Amy - ok but I'd be not so keen, mainly because it seems a lot more commonly used right now.

I like Cerys, too. But husband not keen on it as a first name (other children have Welsh middle names so I guess he wants to keep to the pattern). Also like Olwyn, but I think that's a non-starter.

Should probably do something else now, but interesting to hear all opinions, so keep them coming. I'm reading them, even if I don't reply!

Abigail. It means fathers joy which I also like. Goes well with cerys too. I also like Abi/Abbie but not Gail, I have to say I know no Gails under 40! Any Abigail I know is either her full name or Abbie. Olwyn is lovely too, but you said that's a nonstarter so that is probably no help to you!!
