My Gran was Patience and she had an aunt or cousin Defiance.

I've always thought choosing virtue names is asking for trouble. Call a baby Patience and you can guarantee that patient is the last thing the child / adult will turn out to be.

On that principle, perhaps it would be a good idea to call a child Defiance or Insolence. Or Pugnacity. Or Belligerence (a touch of the Norman French, there, perhaps?)

This reminded me of an episode of The Simpsons where Marge plays a pilgrim. Her name is 'Constance Prudence Chastity Good-Faith Obedience Temperance Sex-Wont'!
