I don't just mean a Verity who's a bit of a fibber, or a stingy Charity but what wouldn't work at all?

I'll start with:

Fecundity
Concord (people would think of aeroplanes)

Ooops - just realised you meant completely inappropriate names.
I guess Patience would be a huffy foot-tapper, Constance a flibberygibbet, Mercy a bully, Hope a gloom-monger etc etc.
Still like a lot of them though.

Persistence, Tenacity, Spontaneity, Loyalty and Diplomacy could work though Wink Domesticity could go one way or the other...

Found a nice puritan name website:

TRIBULATION m English (Puritan)
Meaning, "a cause of great trouble or suffering." Sometimes given to 'bastard' children.

How delightful Shock

This reminded me of an episode of The Simpsons where Marge plays a pilgrim. Her name is 'Constance Prudence Chastity Good-Faith Obedience Temperance Sex-Wont'!

I've always thought choosing virtue names is asking for trouble. Call a baby Patience and you can guarantee that patient is the last thing the child / adult will turn out to be.

On that principle, perhaps it would be a good idea to call a child Defiance or Insolence. Or Pugnacity. Or Belligerence (a touch of the Norman French, there, perhaps?)

I once taught a very bored teenager called Epiphany, who spent most of her time staring sulkily into the middle distance. The likelihood of an original thought from her seemed very slim.
