How would you naturally pronounce Eben?

Eb- en (as in like it's short for Ebenezer)

Or Ee- Ben

Or Eeb- en

Sorry but I would just assume a misspelling of eDen.

Lunar1 · 26/08/2016 18:45

Where is it from?

JennyOnAPlate · 26/08/2016 18:46

Eeb-en. My friend has one!

TrinityForce · 26/08/2016 18:47

I also thought it was a mispelling of Eden

But I'd pronounce it however you told me to. Ee-ben, if I'm going on the assumption it's a variant/mispelling of Eden.

CancellyMcChequeface · 26/08/2016 18:48

My first thought on seeing the title was a shortening of Ebenezer, so Eb-en. I've never seen Eben as a name in its own right before, though.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 26/08/2016 18:49

I'd have said Eh-ben I think.

DomesticAnarchist · 26/08/2016 18:49

Eb-en from that Sublime track

PolkaDot2233 · 26/08/2016 18:50

I'd say it like Eden, with a B, so Eeb-en

ageingrunner · 26/08/2016 18:51

Ee-ben

Fluffsnuts · 26/08/2016 18:51

He was a king a long long time ago! A very old English name.

2legit2knit · 26/08/2016 18:52

Ebben

hownottofuckup · 26/08/2016 18:53

I'd say it like Eden but with a B, I haven't heard of it before so it does sound a bit clumsy

GingerbreadGingerbread · 26/08/2016 18:57

What?

mumhum · 26/08/2016 18:59

Ay-ben. As it means flat/level/even in German.

Figgygal · 26/08/2016 19:00

I wouldn't pronounce it any way I'd think it was a spelling mistake as it's neither a recognisable word or a name

imsorryiasked · 26/08/2016 19:04

I know one and it is pronounced as in Ebenezer, (but is a Hebrew name in its own right, not a shortening of it).

EssentialHummus · 26/08/2016 19:05

I'd say Eeben, and I'd assume he was Arabic and that this was some odd misspelling of Ibn ("son of").

CotswoldStrife · 26/08/2016 19:08

Eb-ben.

everdene · 26/08/2016 19:11

I'd say Eb-ben.

My favourite university lecturer had a son named Eben who he sometimes talked about, who later invented the Raspberry Pi computer. It makes me think of him!

whywonthedgehogssharethehedge · 26/08/2016 19:12

I would say ee Ben as I also saw it as a misspelling of Eden. I've never heard of it.

villainousbroodmare · 26/08/2016 19:14

EEyuh-ben. It's an Afrikaans name.

ForeverEyesOfBlue · 26/08/2016 19:16

I'd say Ay-ben too. I've never heard the name before, but I quite like it.

Lund · 26/08/2016 19:22

I know one - pronounced eh-ben. Fantastic name, it really suits him.

PotatoBread · 26/08/2016 19:36

I'd pronounce it ee-Ben and would also assume it was a typo ofEden! Haven't heard of the King and it does seem a bit awkward and clunky.

SoItGoesSophieTrout · 26/08/2016 19:38

I wouldn't, it does sound natural.
