How would you naturally pronounce Eben?

Eb- en (as in like it's short for Ebenezer)

Or Ee- Ben

Or Eeb- en

I'd prob ask if I doubt, but would have first though eh-Ben

RamonaTheGreat · 26/08/2016 20:07

I've known a couple - one had the first pronunciation and the other had the second. Both really lovely kids so I like the name!

DeltaSunrise · 27/08/2016 23:56

The one I know is South African. He pronounces it E-Ben.

dailymaillazyjournos · 28/08/2016 02:58

Awwwwww that's the name of my very first boyfriend. His was said with a short e as in egg. He was West Indian. Lovely boy. Should have stuck with him and I might not have ended up with bastard exH.

plimsolls · 28/08/2016 03:05

I know a couple of Ebens. They pronounce it EBben.

Caldini22 · 28/08/2016 06:53

I would pronounce EE-Ben but like others would assume should be Eden

Spottyladybird · 28/08/2016 07:03

I teach one and he is Eh-Ben not a a long Ee sound.

GinIsIn · 28/08/2016 07:04

I think I too would assume it was Eden with a typo... Blush

TremoloGreen · 29/08/2016 20:58

Ee-ben. Hebrew, no? Means rock.

EssentialHummus · 29/08/2016 21:12

The Hebrew for rock is e-ven (e like in ever), so I wouldn't make that link tbh.

camelfinger · 29/08/2016 21:15

I'd probably skirt round the issue of pronunciation until I heard someone else say it out loud, and go with whatever they said.

SirNiallDementia · 29/08/2016 21:17

I have a friend called Eben, he pronounces it Eb-en like the start of ebenezer.

Horseshoe1 · 30/08/2016 09:52

Like Evan but with a b!

I know one too.
