Christmassy boys names

MrsJoeyMaynard · 25/08/2016 00:02

We are expecting DC3 in December. Not looking for girl's names - DC1 & 2 are boys, so we've got a good idea of favourite girl's names for our shortlist.

One thing we've considered is whether to have a seasonal name, but we're struggling to think of many boy ones except Noel and Robin, which neither of us like. Any Christmassy boy's name suggestions?

I loathe 'seasonal' names. So naff.

RJnomore1 · 25/08/2016 08:01

That's nice dear.

Op? How about Kris as in Kringle?

AmandaK11 · 25/08/2016 08:02

Nick, shortened version of Nicholas?

TobleroneBoo · 25/08/2016 08:03

Wenceslas? Grin

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 25/08/2016 08:15

Pudding?

Casper is great X

SelfieStick · 25/08/2016 14:22

Theodore, named after the bloke in my favourite Christmas-time book, Little Women. Bit of a stretch, though.

squoosh · 25/08/2016 14:25

I'd ditch the seasonal name idea.

squoosh · 25/08/2016 14:26

ALL Irish male Christmas babies used to be called Stephen. Probably not so much anymore.

PotteringAlong · 25/08/2016 14:28

There was a thread earlier about boys called Ivy...!

PlumDogMillionaire · 27/08/2016 23:08

Robin is fab

Whathaveilost · 27/08/2016 23:12

I did suggest Nicholas but DH giggled childishly about it sounding like "knickerless" So I guess that's out!
What the hell?

eyebrowsonfleek · 27/08/2016 23:13

Joseph, Jack, Gabriel, Jesus,

MrsJoeyMaynard · 28/08/2016 07:43

Whathaveilost - maybe it's an accent thing? Or a hangover from DH's school days....

I think my favourites out of the names suggested are Joseph, Casper and Gabriel.

Stephen is nice but is it a bit dated these days? I've met a fair few Stephen's but can't think of any I know under 30 years old.

Nadal means Christmas in Catalan. Rafael Nadal has it as a surname, but is also a first name in its own right.

OhTheRoses · 28/08/2016 07:51

I'd use a Christmas name as a middle name. That's what we did and our son was born on Christmas day.

LeaveMyWingsBehindMe · 28/08/2016 07:53

I'd go with Gabriel because it's a lovely name and very seasonal but not in an obvious way, like Noel.

Or you could pick from Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Donder, Comet, Cupid or Blitzen. Grin

soundsystem · 28/08/2016 08:18

I'm due just after Christmas and Caspar is on out list. I like it anyway but it's seasonal without being in-your-face Christmassy.

MrsGsnow18 · 28/08/2016 08:51

I like Gabriel and Caspar too, though the seasonal aspect of Caspar is something I wasn't aware of?
Joshua And Caleb are lovely too!

crje · 28/08/2016 09:09

Casper is cute on a child but not so much on an adult imo

RockinHippy · 28/08/2016 09:10

Stephen is nice but is it a bit dated these days? I've met a fair few Stephen's but can't think of any I know under 30 years old.

If you like it, don't rule it out, its having a bit of a resurgence around here, so its likely to become more popular again.

I know of 3 under 2, friends grandson goes by the NN Stevie

Nellyphants · 28/08/2016 09:12

All Irish men I know with Christmas birthdays are Noel. Nollaig is popular no.

Zhabr · 28/08/2016 09:19

This joke about "knickerless" must be very old, I have a Nicholas born in December (which was not expected as I was 2 weeks overdue) and I never heard this kind of joke, other then on MN. It is indeed very infantile.

Crispbutty · 28/08/2016 09:22

Nathaniel, means God has given and the shorter "Nat" is nice too as well.
