Regretting my baby name choice

Cellardoor23 · 23/08/2016 12:20

When I choice the name for my DC i liked it because I hadn't heard anyone where I live with that name. I chose it from the baby name book. I struggled with boys names and there are very few that I like.

However since reading on mumsnet (and I don't know why it bothers me but it does) a lot of people have said it's a chav name. I never thought you could really get chav names just chavy people?

But it's made me very insecure and I'm seriously considering changing it now. Am I being stupid? It's upset me quite a bit.

Harrison is defiantly not chavvy (nor is the common shortening of the name Harry!). Harrison is lovely and I think you have picked a really nice name. I honestly wouldn't worry about this anymore and enjoy your son!

Love it! I had Harrison as a American choice for dc#2, I had a little girl though

toadgirl · 23/08/2016 13:15

Chavvy?

Regretting my baby name choice
choccybiscuit · 23/08/2016 13:16

American? Meant to say name!

MoreGilmoreGirls · 23/08/2016 13:18

Harrison is lovely take no notice of the posters on the baby name threads, my DS's name got a proper slagging off over there, like I'm bothered. Everyone in rl has reacted positive. If you like it keep it. Grin

TwoLittleBlooms · 23/08/2016 13:21

Harrison is a lovely name! Flowers

MadisonAvenue · 23/08/2016 13:26

Please stop regretting it, Harrison is a lovely name! I honestly didn't expect you to say that, I was expecting Jayden or Kai!

Cellardoor23 · 23/08/2016 13:27

Thank you again for all the replies. Reading through all of your comments has definitely put things in perspective for me! I feel a lot better. I think it was just me being silly and insecure.

Glad you feel better, OP!

peaceloveandtwirlywoos · 23/08/2016 13:31

According to MN my name is 1970s (born mid 80s), and my DS' name is a boring filler. Probably true, but oh well! They suit us :)

datingbarb · 23/08/2016 13:32

Harrison is a lovely name

My ex niece little boy is called Harrison and believe me they are the least "chavvy" people you could ever meet.... She is a bit of a hyacinth bucket Grin

I 100% would not think anything bad or chavvy if I heard that name in fact the few Harrison's I know are from lovely families

TeaMeBasil · 23/08/2016 13:38

It's a lovely name - so is Harry! You can't go wrong Smile

Purplebluebird · 23/08/2016 13:41

I think Harrison is a lovely name, I can't see it as chavvy at all? I think it's normal to wobble a bit about names, I wobbled a little bit about our son's name, even though I actually love it. I love it even more now 2 years down the line! Might very well be the same for you :)

Great name :) it was top of my list for years but didn't go with our surname when I got married and had my first DS

Sugarcoma · 23/08/2016 14:03

Harrison is a nice name. Nicky Clarke (the hairdresser's) son is Harrison and I've never thought of it as chavvy.

notagiraffe · 23/08/2016 14:08

DS has a 'chav' name. It's a family name and imo a classic name but it gets on the hated list on MN all the time. But also on the top ten names (wasn't overused when we chose it, but got popular soon after.) You can't win. No point caring.

leoniethelioness · 23/08/2016 14:58

Harrison is absolutely fine!

Honeybee79 · 23/08/2016 16:04

It is a perfectly lovely name. If you like it then stick with it. Honestly, opinions will always be divided on here - you will never get a consensus - and while it can be a good sounding board ultimately you have chosen a lovely name that you like. If you still like it, then don't change it!

Changingagain · 23/08/2016 16:12

Harrison is lovely and I wouldn't think of it as chavvy.

DS's name is a fad according to MN but we like it and it seems to suit him.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 23/08/2016 16:15

Lovely name biased because it was my maiden name

Bluesand1 · 23/08/2016 20:25

Not chavvy. I know of one whose mum is a lawyer. Def not chav.

user1471501988 · 23/08/2016 20:31

Lovely name OP, not chavvy at all.

Wolfiefan · 23/08/2016 20:35

I am afraid I often see name choices on here and think oh no! I'm afraid I do see some names as "chavvy". Harrison is NOT one of those. So if a judgy old trout like me thinks it's ok then you're good!!!
