My friends have a dog called Apollo Blush

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 15/08/2016 21:01

Although nn Polly might worry me.

Ellieboolou27 · 15/08/2016 21:02

Agree with creed, soon as I saw the name I started humming eye of the tiger.
Nickname could be app Grin
Honestly it's not a good choice

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 15/08/2016 21:02

Also, Apollo's twin was a Sister, not a brother-Artemis.

Memoires · 15/08/2016 21:03

No. No one will take it seriously and he would have to grow up to be fantastically good looking and really really fit and gorgeous, or everyone will be thinking "he doesn't live up to his name". You're really setting him up to fail.

Don't be mean.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 15/08/2016 21:03

Too big a name to bear.
Why not go to Zeus and be done with it?

PunkrockerGirl · 15/08/2016 21:07

Awful. Poor kid.
Just because you like it, doesn't make it right to subject a child to a lifetime of ridicule Hmm
As a pp said, change your own name to Apollo if you like it that much and see how you get on, but ffs give your child a proper name.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 15/08/2016 21:13

Also, think about your family name.

It will go something like Apollo Johnson, or Apollo Brown, or Apollo Wallace or something.
Not good.

DropYourSword · 15/08/2016 21:17

I genuinely prefer Zeus to Apollo! Goes better with Xavier

LOXY1 · 15/08/2016 22:54

Dropyoursword

Xavier's middle name is going to be Zeus!Wink

I know an Apollo. He's not amazingly good looking or charismatic or intelligent - I've never really thought about it before, but I think he carries off his name because it's all I've ever known him as! I've never heard him getting bullied for it, but I think I must live in a really nice area, nobody was bullied for their name at my school.

chameleon43 · 16/08/2016 10:30

Xavier?Apollo?Zeus?

Just no. NO.

DropYourSword · 16/08/2016 10:34

What's wrong with Xavier?

SpaceDinosaur · 16/08/2016 11:51

LOVE LOVE LOVE OP!!!

DH and I looked at Oberon as a potential name for DC1 if it's a boy (due Christmas) but if his friends are intelligent then naming our son after the "king of the faries" is a sure fire way to have the poor lamb bullied.

CarrotVan · 16/08/2016 11:52

Xavier should be paired with another fine RC name like Benedict, Anselm, Francis or Ignatius.

Keep the gods for the middle names and then they'll have something to use in those tedious work ice-breakers where you have to unique fact or guess who the fact belongs to

ArcheryAnnie · 16/08/2016 12:00

Go for it!

I love my DS's name, but totally regret not giving him other names as well that I really like, but other people are a bit !!! about. (I was too tired in the first few weeks with Surprise Boy to think clearly beyond his first name. I'd had loads of girl's names all lined up...)

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/08/2016 12:04

Not unless you're from Atlanta and are a Real Housewife.

Hersetta427 · 16/08/2016 13:55

A true case of just because you can, does not mean you should.

just no.

Poor little fucker

DerelictMyBalls · 16/08/2016 18:44

I love it. I know a man called Apollo and he really likes it.

fluentinsarcasm · 16/08/2016 18:58

Beyond stupid, grow up.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 17/08/2016 16:15

How rude!

TipBoov · 17/08/2016 16:20

Lovely name OP, go for it!

chattygranny · 17/08/2016 16:25

Do you have Greek / Roman heritage? The classical names are still the norm in Greece so if you do I say go for it. If not, personally I wouldn't (you'll be asked all the time if you're Greek) just as I wouldn't personally use Fergus without Scottish heritage but in itself it's a good strong name.

NetballHoop · 17/08/2016 16:29

From Wiki: "Medicine and healing are associated with Apollo, whether through the god himself or mediated through his son Asclepius, yet Apollo was also seen as a god who could bring ill-health and deadly plague."

So he'll either bring good health or death. I'd stick to something safer.

DerelictMyBalls · 17/08/2016 16:41

Wow, there are some really rude bastards on this thread.
