Name for DD1 - Juno?

I am due a little girl in October and already have 2 boys. The boys both have classical names, but that wasn't an intentional theme really. We like a few girls names (most also classical) but Juno is the one which is growing on me the most.

I always like to check a name out on a MN thread in case i'm missing something awful! Grin

It's not awful is it? There isn't an infamous serial killer called Juno or summat? I know there was an indy film a while back, but i never saw it. I don't think it was too offensive.

Also we can't think of any middle names to go with it. Any suggestions welcome.

I didn't realise the name Maleficent existed outside of Sleeping Beauty.

MrsKoala · 10/08/2016 16:10

Both dh and i studied classical subjects so we know the stories - and as with my name, it isn't always pretty. But it is interesting. We like the names nonetheless.

they are good strong names it's true! Did you decide on your boys' names before they were born? Sometimes babies look like a particular name would suit them, and it's hard to get a sense of that before they're born. (I speak as a bad mother who changed DD's fancy name to something much simpler, over the course of a few months, as it just didn't suit her much to the confusion of all relations)

MrsKoala · 10/08/2016 16:27

We had a few options. We had Leonidas for ds1, but he just didn't look like one. We also originally had Julius i think for Lulu (i can't even remember now) but he was defo a Lulu when we met him Grin

I am always surprised when people comment on how lovely ds1's name is and then say nothing about ds2s. I love them both equally. But hardly anyone has said his name is nice, whereas everyone comments on ds1.

Maybe people have heard of Leonidas, MrsKoala because of that 300 film, so they like it because of that?

MrsKoala · 10/08/2016 16:38

Ah no sorry - we didn't go with Leonidas, we went with Lysander instead. He just didn't look like a Leonidas to us (not at all sure what a baby Leonidas would look like tbh tho!). It was the 300 film that put us off i think.

I don't like it at all,it seems a bit 'try hard' but saying that I really like the name June.

It sounds too similar to sumo imo.

MrsKoala · 10/08/2016 16:47

Second with the sumo comparison - i just can't see or hear it at all. Is it an accent thing?

Mo and no rhyme, only that but it's enough of a comparison for me not to like it.

MrsKoala · 10/08/2016 16:58

Ah well that's not a problem for me.

If you love it, use it!Smile

AtiaoftheJulii · 10/08/2016 18:05

I love Lucian! Lysander's nice, but I think Lucian's gorgeous Grin

MrsKoala · 10/08/2016 18:35

That's nice to hear atia, i felt a bit sad for my Lulu when we had him as when we had Lysander (and still when we meet new people now) they all said/say 'oh what a fantastic names' etc (also we got loads of named presents for him from relatives, engraved and embroidered keepsakes). Then we had Lucian and people sort of went 'mmm' and didn't give him any presents. When we introduce them together people make a big deal of Lysander and not Lucian at all. At the moment he is 2 so doesn't notice of course, but I do worry when he gets older he will feel hard done by. (My sister does about my name I think and I always try to downplay any compliment in front of her)

I'm still torn Dame. I don't know if I love it as much as Artemis, but I get the feeling dh thinks we will sound less like wankers shouting 'Juno' at soft play than one of our other name choices. And I can see it is a little less out there. So he does have a point.

We are destined to be one of those 'overheard in waitrose' cliches!

We now have the middle name issue. Dh wants to give her mils name. Mil passed away last year and left us quite a bit of money. My mum and dad will be offended if we don't use mums name too in that case, as they do lots to help us out.

Neither of them I like and neither really go. But either would sound okaaay after Juno Persephone. But then we can't give her 3 bloody long middle names. Aaargh.

My Juno has MILs name as her middle name. Partly because she unfortunately passed away before DD was born, but mostly (and importantly) because it goes so well with Juno. If it hadn't worked I wouldn't have considered it.

Re feeling a bit of a knob at soft play shouting Juno/Artemis/Persephone, I totally get this and have occasionally felt a bit of a knob. However I got over it pretty quick. I now shout it with pride Grin

Lulu/lucien is gorgeous btw.

Go with what you love, screw everyone else

MrsKoala · 20/11/2016 18:43

We didn't go with Juno in the end. When she was presented to us she had (has) a full head of quite long, thick, very dark hair. DH said 'she just doesn't look like a Juno, she looks like an Arty'. So that's what we went with. Artemis. But we call her Arty.

We still like Juno tho and if we ever have another...

Congratulations, lovely names & thanks for the update. My eldest 2 sons have very classic, common names but my daughter has something a bit different too.

KlingybunFistelvase · 20/11/2016 19:04

Lovely name choices MrsK. Congratulations on the new arrival! Flowers

I don't 'get' Juno at all. Sounds like a nn.
