What do you think of Aubrey for a girl

I love Audrey but it just reminds me of Corrie woman not Hepburn sadly Grin

I really like Aubrey but is it too American sounding? It's not a American name - I thought it was but I checked.

And does it go with Layla? As a sibling.

I'm really surprised by this thread. I like Aubrey for a boy but everyone I've mentioned it too says it's a girls name! To the point I don't think I could give it to a boy. The Americans have hijacked it for girls. I'd say it definitely could be used for a girl (although I'd rather it wasn't as I want it to remain a boys name!)

ChipsandGuac · 05/08/2016 00:02

Hurricane my cousin is called Aubrey and he's most definitely a boy!

Cathaka15 · 05/08/2016 00:06

I actually really like it.

manicinsomniac · 05/08/2016 00:45

I love it.

Fairly American sounding yes but I don't think that matters.

People on mn always say that it's a boy's name. It very clearly is not any more. In the US it's hugely popular as a girl's name (maybe top 10? Certainly top 100) and almost unheard of as a boy's name. In the UK it's rare for a girl and even rarer for a boy.

CodewordRochambeau · 05/08/2016 11:03

Dan Stevens from Downton Abbey has a son called Aubrey. I love it as a boy's name.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 05/08/2016 11:05

It's a boys' name. I'm really against this American trend for pilfering boys' names for the girls!

Littlefish · 05/08/2016 19:09

I know a little girl called Aubrie. It quite suits her, but I have to keep correcting myself as my instinct is to call her Audrey.

Doilooklikeatourist · 05/08/2016 19:13

IMHO , Aubrey is a boys name
Audrey , rather nice for a baby girl. Unusual and not made up
Due a revival , as is Valerie

WaitrosePigeon · 05/08/2016 19:30

I don't get this whole 'it's a boys name' or 'it's a girls name' ... Well now it's both! Drives me mad.

Acornantics · 05/08/2016 19:33

I know a grown up Aubrey and a baby Aubrey, both American.

SallyGardens · 05/08/2016 19:34

Hillary, Marion, Evelyn, Leslie, Vivian were all originally male names too. If you like it, use it.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 05/08/2016 19:37

My French penpal when I was 13 was called Audrey. She was truly awesome, in that nonchalantly French way... I've always loved the name since...

kohl · 05/08/2016 19:38

YES! Lovely name for a girl, elegant and it also suggests someone who doesn't fuck about. Great choice!

SpareHead3 · 05/08/2016 19:40

Aw for me Aubrey is associated with a beautiful song by Bread, but I can see that the majority will understandably think otherwise.

Audra is nice Smile

Middleoftheroad · 05/08/2016 19:53

It's the name of the current Sleb Big Brother Homer Simpson lips playgirl - that's all I can picture at the mo!

I think, when I was a kid, there was a cartoon called Aubrey about a man.

WaitrosePigeon · 05/08/2016 19:55

Love Vivienne!

Middleoftheroad · 05/08/2016 19:55

Here is Aubrey the cartoon. Loved it (sorry for going off topic a bit ☺)

QOD · 05/08/2016 20:03

I know an Aubrey. Not keen myself and was unsure if she was a boy or. Girl for ages!
Use a name YOU like. If you like it, use it 👌

RepentAtLeisure · 05/08/2016 20:37

I have to agree that all the real life Audrey's I've met have been far more Weatherfield than Hollywood (apologies to any lurking Audreys!) but that doesn't mean your dd won't be more like Ms Hepburn... Choose the name you love, I don't see any point in making adjustments and compromises.

VanessaBet · 05/08/2016 20:47

I know of a 2 week old Aubrie, not American. I think it's becoming more popular. It might be a boys' name but it's not like calling your daughter Geoffrey or David.

schokolade · 08/08/2016 20:13

Aubrey Plaza is an actress. I like it!
