I love Audrey but it just reminds me of Corrie woman not Hepburn sadly Grin

I really like Aubrey but is it too American sounding? It's not a American name - I thought it was but I checked.

And does it go with Layla? As a sibling.

Bread sang about an Aubrey. (🎶 And Aubrey was her name🎶)

SitsOnFence · 01/08/2016 13:17

I love Audrey

ayeokthen · 01/08/2016 13:18

There's lots of Rileys in the nursery our babies go to, a few Taylors too. I just meant that if op wanted to call her daughter Aubrey there's no reason she shouldn't, that's all. It's not as out there as some names I've come across!

plonkie · 01/08/2016 13:18

Love it!! Borntobeamum, that's the first thing I thought of, the Bread song. Never heard a bloke being called Aubrey either. I think it's really pretty.

We had a boy next door called Aubrey... although whenever I hear the name I picture this.....

Aubrey Beardsley, died 1898 aged 25, amazing and definitely English male artist/illustrator.
Doesn't mean you can't use it for a girl though.

FrameyMcFrame · 01/08/2016 13:25

Aubrey Beardsley, the artist and illustrator? He was a man though.

Ilovenannyplum · 01/08/2016 13:27

I really like it OP

NapQueen · 01/08/2016 13:29

The girl who plays Lily in Modern Family is Aubrey.

I don't particularly like the name but I don't see it as a boys name.

Aubrey is an entirely different style of name to Audrey.

bostonkremekrazy · 01/08/2016 16:54

love it, would have used it for a girl.....but dh reminded me its a male relatives name so we couldn't.

lastqueenofscotland · 01/08/2016 17:05

I have a male relative called Aubrey... I can't get my head round it for a girl.

RalphSteadmansEye · 01/08/2016 17:05

I love Audrey. It's very elegant.

Not keen on Aubrey as it's traditionally a boys' name.

Floralnomad · 01/08/2016 17:08

Audrey / Aubrey - both equally dreadful , they sound really dreary and depressing .

MsKite · 01/08/2016 17:11

Audrey is a lovely name and Aubrey is a boy's name

DerelictMyBalls · 01/08/2016 17:32

I really don't like it, especially for a girl.

florascotianew · 01/08/2016 17:35

Aubrey is indeed male in origin - and in usage until very recently.
It's a version of Oberon , KING of the fairies in Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream.
Aubrey Beardsley (male and pretty decadent) is still well known as a male artist.

On the other hand, Morgan (originally Morgen) as a female name dates back to the Middle Ages. Morgan le Fay was a powerful sorceress in medieval Arthurian legends, which draw on much earlier stories.

OhNoNotMyBaby · 01/08/2016 17:39

How about Aubretia? pretty flower

Not Aubrey for a girl.

ayeokthen · 01/08/2016 17:39

Morgan is an old Welsh name

I think it's lovely for a girl. I know it's traditionally an English boy's name but I'm Irish and to me it sounds girly for sure. Considered it for DD2.

BertrandRussell · 01/08/2016 18:35

Would you call a boy Susan?

hmcAsWas · 01/08/2016 18:42

traditionally a male name but commonly used for girls in the United States

..and perhaps here in future. Ignore the naysayers - use it if you want to. I quite like the name (for either sex)

BigGreenOlives · 01/08/2016 18:43

It's usually a boy's name

Wordsaremything · 01/08/2016 21:27

I rather like Aubrey, though it is American. There's a beautiful, gentle 70s song called 'and Aubrey was her name' by the band Bread, I believe.

toadgirl · 01/08/2016 21:32

An early female form is recorded as Aubrée and does not share the same etymology. It is instead derived from the Germanic Albereda or Alberada. It can be found in certain genealogies of the noble Norman families
