Emma or Ella

I had planned to name my little girl Emma, but am now considering Ella too. I love both names and am quite torn between the two. Any opinions? Thanks!

Emma definitely - beautiful, classic name

Stevefromstevenage · 29/07/2016 06:37

Emma from me too. They are both lovely names and funnily enough I only recently copped on how similar they are but I prefer Emma.

Ciarabean · 29/07/2016 06:47

Emma! I agree with PP - it's a beautiful, timeless classic.

MoonlightMedicine · 29/07/2016 06:50

Emma. Ella is lovely but Emma has the 'edge' for me!

LippyLiz · 29/07/2016 07:03

Emma

FurryTurnip · 29/07/2016 07:04

Emma. Ella is extremely popular at the moment.

BikeRunSki · 29/07/2016 07:11

Definitely Emma. There's Ellas, and variations of Ellas, all over the place.

Emma is also a much nicer name.

TrappedNerve · 29/07/2016 07:14

My dc have two cousins called Ella it gets very confusing!
There are also tons at school.

I love Emma :)

EllaHen · 29/07/2016 07:16

Emma.

Clutteredmess · 29/07/2016 07:17

Emma - I may be biased as I have a 20 year old Emma

KERALA1 · 29/07/2016 07:18

Emma there are loads of Ella's

Pipilangstrumpf · 29/07/2016 07:18

Emma!

Ella is SO overused and love likely to date badly.

Kukoo · 29/07/2016 07:24

I'm going to go against the grain and say Ella.

I'm in my 30's and for women my age and older it's one of the most popular names I know, pipped to the post only by Sarah.

It just feels very bland to me for that reason.

Kukoo · 29/07/2016 07:24

*Emma is one of the most popular names

Friolero · 29/07/2016 07:27

I agree with the majority, Emma is a prettier name in my opinion and much less common for babies at the moment, whereas around me there seem to be so many Ellas.

RingUpRingRingDown · 29/07/2016 07:29

Emma. Classic and lovely.

Not keen on Ella.

Reindeerlily · 29/07/2016 07:52

Emma definitely.

Wigeon · 29/07/2016 07:55

Ella is very popular. Emma less so, more classic.

megletthesecond · 29/07/2016 07:57

Emma. I know loads of Ellas.

TheCricketWidow · 29/07/2016 07:59

Ive got an ella, shes 12..we've never met or heard of another ella locally in all that time.

RiverTam · 29/07/2016 08:08

Both lovely names and whilst Ella is more popular now I think Emma is creeping up (and it's been the #1 name in the US for a while now). MN hates Ella so you'll not get a balanced view when that name's in the mix!

WaitrosePigeon · 29/07/2016 08:12

Emma is least boring out of the two.

StrumpersPlunkett · 29/07/2016 08:14

In class she is likely to be known by you surname initial after Ella
But Emma will probably stand alone

Swearwolf · 29/07/2016 08:18

I'm with kukoo here, Emma is a popular name from our generation so it seems odd on a baby to me, like that one girl I was at school with in the 90s called Barbara. Ellie is very popular but ella slightly less so I think.

Aquiver · 29/07/2016 08:19

Ella is a pretty but so commonplace these days.

I adore the name Emma - classic, elegant and a lovely feminine age for little girls / teenagers / women
