I had planned to name my little girl Emma, but am now considering Ella too. I love both names and am quite torn between the two. Any opinions? Thanks!

Emma!

Sophronia · 29/07/2016 10:57

Ella is lovely but so popular. Emma will be more unusual nowadays.

SunglassesPink · 29/07/2016 11:10

Emma is simple and classic, and seems refreshing on little ones right now, despite it's universal popularity.

jellycat1 · 29/07/2016 11:12

Definitely Emma. Ella also sounds to me like an abbreviation. Emma was in my top 3. Got a boy though!

DramaAlpaca · 29/07/2016 11:13

Emma.

It's my favourite girls' name but I didn't get to use it as I had all boys.

Use it for me, please Grin

MrsCaecilius · 29/07/2016 11:21

Emma. Classic and beautiful.

Ella is pretty, but to me it falls into the Ella/Ava/Evie bracket that is everywhere at the moment.

dontmakemedothis · 29/07/2016 11:59

Ella is a really nice name. Most people seem to be saying no to it purely because of its popularity. But there's nothing wrong with picking a popular name! I think it's much prettier sounding.

Emma, to me, is classic in a really boring way. It's like Charlotte or Victoria or Emily or Hannah. Nothing wrong with it - just super bland.

Scuttle22 · 29/07/2016 12:03

Emma for me too. I just don't like the name Ella - it's a bit sickly.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 29/07/2016 14:02

I really like both! But prefer Emma.

SorenaJ · 29/07/2016 14:49

Emma.

Rosaaa · 31/07/2016 17:01

Both are good names and both are used quite a bit nowadays. Choose the one you like better. Congrats!

KoalaDownUnder · 31/07/2016 17:04

Ella.

I'm with kukoo. Emma is dull and dated. See also Sarah. It's s 'mum' name, tbh.

busymummy3boys1girl · 31/07/2016 18:56

I prefer Emma too xx Smile

KERALA1 · 31/07/2016 19:02

There are just so many Ella's - if it's your first baby you may not realise. I nearly called pfb Olivia before realising it was the name everyone else had picked that year. So glad I didn't - first baby group there were 3.

I have a dull common name myself and didn't want that for my children. Went for lunch on Friday 3 of us, same age same name.

JennyOnAPlate · 31/07/2016 19:05

I have an 8yo Ella and have never met another one. She's the only one in her year at school (60 children) and I know there isn't one in dd2s year either. I don't know where all these Ella's are Confused

KERALA1 · 31/07/2016 20:31

We have at least 2 in each class here (south west). Extremely common as is eve. If popularity doesn't bother you fine but personally would avoid.

Doilooklikeatourist · 31/07/2016 20:34

Emma is much more classy and timeless I know I'm a 53 year old Emma
Ella is a bit ... Meh ...

InterchangeableEmma · 31/07/2016 20:37

Emma, well, unless you're somewhere where it's pronounced Emmer. Emily might be better there.

RiverTam · 01/08/2016 10:26

I do know a few Ellas but I've never yet met an Olivia. Popularity can be very location specific. But you also can't tell if a name will suddenly become popular because of a celeb or whatever.

notamummy10 · 01/08/2016 10:28

I love Ella!!

lastqueenofscotland · 01/08/2016 11:33

I don't like Ella at all. the only adult one I know is a real piece of work and I think it will date badly.

I adore Emma.

MotherOfGlob · 01/08/2016 12:05

Emma's lovely.
