DS has a name that's very similar to a celebrity... I had no idea.

My son is 10 months old, his name is very similar to a celebrity and it's already causing problems.

At first, people would say the celebrity's name, whenever I introduced them, thinking they had heard it wrong... Failing to realise they were taking the piss.

I'm not sure what to do...

I have heard of Charlie Puth but I doubt it's something your son will have to worry about in the future.

If you ever have a girl, make sure to call her Cherie.

exWifebeginsat40 · 17/07/2016 21:15

I was hoping it was going to be Eninen or Beyonke :(

MyKingdomForBrie · 17/07/2016 21:17

failing to realise they're taking the piss well they're definitely not taking the piss then are they if they don't even know they're saying his name wrong?!

Mar15mite · 17/07/2016 21:17

I work with someone called David Cameron, that's much worse for sure. Never heard of the (apparent) celeb you mentioned, but then I'm not very down with the kids lol

Elephants25 · 17/07/2016 21:18

No, they say the name wrong on purpose!

Never heard of him!

Just don't ever say his full name in front of young people. Wait until he becomes obsolete.

HairyMoose · 17/07/2016 21:20

I'mdont worry I've know two Michael Jacksons and a Katie Price!

HairyMoose · 17/07/2016 21:21

Sorry over did the vodka today 🙄

EverySongbirdSays · 17/07/2016 21:21

I have his album.

Tis very good.

He is of the Taylor Swift style age group usually though

Let's Marvin Gaye and Get It On etc

I'm surprised people are commenting/making a big deal of it tbh. They are different names.

NoBetterName · 17/07/2016 21:27

I used to know a Richard Burton. As a late-teen he was stopped by the police one night for speeding. The police refused to believe he was giving them this real name.

mummytime · 17/07/2016 21:30

I have known several Michael Jacksons. And a few Harry Webbs. And a few others.

By the time your son is older the "cool" people making jokes will be sneered at by teenagers who've "never heard of him".

DH has a few people with the same name as him, one very famous in a related field - it's only embarrassing when DH gets the other ones mail or isn't sure if an invitation is really for him.

EverySongbirdSays · 17/07/2016 21:32

Years ago when on Friends Reunited I saw that my ex had a Harry Potter in his year. I think the first 2 were out but it wasn't a thing yet. He must have to go by his wife or mothers maiden now. Imagine the nightmare and the stick you'd get - NO-ONE would believe you.

BikeRunSki · 17/07/2016 21:33

Never heard of him .

I have the same name as a very famous male (I'm not!) rock singer. It get comments oh about 20, 30 times a day...

Idiotxit · 17/07/2016 21:34

I know a Ronald MacDonald. Seriously, you're fine.

Balletgirlmum · 17/07/2016 21:36

Ds loves him. He sang the song used for the last Fast & Furious song that was a tribute to the actor who died. Also Marvin Gaye & get it in with that woman singer whatsherface name (the one who sang about not being a size 10)

KissMyArse · 17/07/2016 21:37

Nope, never heard of him. You'll be safe around me.

I was thinking more along the lines of Cliff Richard.

Justlikefire · 17/07/2016 21:38

I would never associate the two names. Puth doesn't even rhyme with Booth does it?

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 17/07/2016 21:40

I think you've just met some weird people! Or your imagining them taking the piss.

Even people with more famous names don't get that, they just get oh like ......

NowWhat1983 · 17/07/2016 21:40

Ive seen him live and had my picture taken with him! He was performing in a pub in London. Before that night I had no idea who he was!

KissMyArse · 17/07/2016 21:41

I used to know a Richard Burton. As a late-teen he was stopped by the police one night for speeding. The police refused to believe he was giving them this real name.

My brother used to know someone called Steve Rockett who was stopped for speeding on his way to work. Add in the fact he worked at the Mars factory in Slough, you can imagine how that went.

"What's your name?"
"Steve Rockett"
"Where are you off to in such a hurry?"
"Mars"

Elephants25 · 17/07/2016 21:46

Puth is said as Pooth.

Thanks, feeling better about it!

If you take the "son" off the end of our surname my DS1's name is the same as a very famous film star/ singer. It's never been an issue, I forget until we meet someone new and occasionally (probably twice ever) it gets mentioned.

IAmAPaleontologist · 17/07/2016 21:47

I really wouldn't worry. People just feel the need to say something about a baby name, give it a few months and it will stop.

Ds2's name is the same as a minor celeb of the passing trend kind but the other way round (eg if ds was Jackson James then the celeb is James Jackson) and when he was a baby we were admitted to the children's ward from A&E and when we got up they had the celebs name on the board which caused all manner of confusion and me trying to point out their mistake Grin

MadisonMontgomery · 17/07/2016 21:53

I really wouldn't worry about it. I was at school with a girl called Katie Perry, I'm sure she gets the odd double take now, but for the first 20 odd years of her life it wasn't an issue, and I'm sure it won't be in another 10. It isn't like your surname was Cruise and you called him Tom.

LovelyJubblyRodney · 17/07/2016 22:13

My DS has the same name as a well known celebrity except the name isn't common at all! Charlie is a lovely name.
