Is it short for something? It's not one many people will have heard if in the UK I think, and sadly, it will cause a fair amount of teasing. Turd or Toad, not good either way!

villainousbroodmare · 12/07/2016 20:01

You're right, it's not a good name for a baby, at least not in an English-speaking country.
Tor is nice.

OhTheRoses · 12/07/2016 20:20

Where did the op go? Hope you are ok. Hope this isn't a clever poo thread.

poaspcos · 12/07/2016 20:24

Todd? Would be better in the Uk

Jjspoon · 12/07/2016 22:20

Wow some people on here are so rude!

Ilovemygsd · 12/07/2016 22:44

Anthony, shortened to tor, Tony, tory/torie

I would definitely not go with tord, no offence but it doesn't sound like a name at all

Someone said its not a proper name and to think of something 'better'.

Pretty rude.

I vote Tor too FWIW

DailyMailAreMassiveCunts · 13/07/2016 09:36

no. Sorry.

ShatnersBassoon · 13/07/2016 09:39

I think it's better to come up with a completely different name, rather than use something that's almost like Grandad's but that sounds slightly less like turd.

Asking someone if their Grandads name is a 'proper' name is rude. It just is. Introducing the negative 'it's not a proper name, is it' is a rude way of phrasing any question and implies the asker believes, quite firmly, no it's not.

It was rude.

Saralyn · 13/07/2016 11:27

Tord is a perfectly normal Norwegian name, but English speakers will find it hard to pronounce it properly. The R is supposed to be "hard", like in Spanish.

champagneplanet · 13/07/2016 11:31

It's a good strong masculine name but unfortunately would give rise to teasing/misunderstanding I'm afraid. Certain accents may highlight that more too.

I do like Tor, which is unusual. Maybe you could go with Tord as a middle name to honour your grandfather?

What about Torode?

midsomermurderess · 14/07/2016 15:50

Yes, of course, you must use it.

minatiae · 14/07/2016 16:00

Tor is good. You can also spell Tord as Torde which looks less like turd.

What about Torden? It's a Scandinavian word with the same meaning as Tord, then shorten it to Tord if you/he wants to.

Kalispera · 14/07/2016 16:01

Why don't you test out reactions by introducing yourself as Tord to strangers for a week and see what happens...Wink

LineyReborn · 14/07/2016 16:03

Perfectly lovely. Especially with the 'r' pronounced. Torrrd.

Marcipex · 15/07/2016 14:47

Anglicise it to Todd?

AtticusTheRoman · 15/07/2016 16:41

It means 'fart' in Thai...

Floggingmolly · 15/07/2016 20:17

Does it really, Atticus? Between farts and shit, let's hope op has the sense to drop this nonsense and call her child an actual name.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 15/07/2016 22:07

I quite like it though agree with pps that he might get the odd turd joke. For that reason I would probably go for Tor which I really like too. Smile

minatiae · 16/07/2016 01:33

But Tord IS a name. A foreign name, but still a name.

I still like Torden. Enough that I'm putting it on my list of names for my potential (but unfortunately
probably never) DS.
