Unusual boys name, what do people think?

So my husband and I are expecting our 2nd son in 3 weeks.
Our little boy is called Sawyer, so not a traditional name, so we was after a name for our 2nd son along the same lines.

The name we've heard this week for our 2nd son is Loxley or Locksley.
What do people think to this is it to unsusal?
Thanks in advance

First thought was you are really into Lost - characters called Sawyer and Locke. Also makes me think of the Archers, Lower Loxley is a place in the show. Really like Sawyer though :)

BendydickCuminsnatch · 26/06/2016 16:20

Didn't see PP! ^^

dailymaillazyjournos · 26/06/2016 16:45

I love Sawyer but not keen on Loxley which for some reason reminds me of a range of sofas or wooden furniture (Im weird though so you can ignore that).

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 26/06/2016 16:47

I love Sawyer.

Not a fan of Loxley. I like Wyatt, though.

FlossiesFurCoat · 26/06/2016 16:47

They are all surnames. To my ears that makes them sound American, not necessarily a bad thing just not y taste.

BackforGood · 26/06/2016 16:55

derelict Grin

I'm not at all keen, but, if you named ds1 Sawyer, then I don't think you are ever going to suggest a name I like. As others have said, if you and dh like it, then do it.

NapQueen · 26/06/2016 17:02

Sawyer isn't too bad as surname names go. Loxley I don't like.

What about Fletcher?

Crazykittensmile · 26/06/2016 17:02

Loxley. Never heard it before but I love it. Think that spelling works better than Locksley as well.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 26/06/2016 17:03

I quite like Loxley.

There was a little boy called Oakley on holiday last year - I'd never heard it before but it did really suit him!

BoboBunnyH0p · 26/06/2016 18:02

I like it, if both you and your DH like it then go for it no one else's opinion matters.
My DS is Chase so like surnames as names. I also like Drake, Carter and Archer. Wyatt is nice and I like Brady too.

LadyCallandraDaviot · 26/06/2016 18:05

Carter or Archer could be other possibilities?

I quite like Loxley, and think it goes well with Sawyer

oldbirdy · 26/06/2016 18:13

I have an American friend with a son called Sawyer. Her others are called Gage, Dade and Logan.

nooka · 26/06/2016 18:32

Personally I really dislike surnames as first names, but where I live (Canada) they are very common. When my ds joined the local youth soccer team I thought that they were using the boys surnames not their first names. there was one boy called Thatcher!

Loxley seems as good or bad as Sawyer to me (and Loxley is much better than Locksley).

JazzAnnNonMouse · 27/06/2016 08:38

I like it its like Robin Hood and ties in with sawyer
Both surnames
Both literature

Thumbs up Smile

Suzietwo · 27/06/2016 08:42

Are you relocating to 19th century Midwest?

(I actually quite like both)

electricflyzapper · 27/06/2016 08:44

I love Loxley. Very cool and alternative. Less keen on Sawyer but not entirely against it either and can see that the 2 names really match each other.

Just a thought: Lochlan/Lachlan is a 'real' name, from Scotland I believe, and very similar sounding.

MrsMarsch · 27/06/2016 08:57

Loxley is wicked!

Parsley1234 · 28/06/2016 11:03

I love it - met a little boy called Luxton last week nn lucky X

mellmumma · 01/07/2016 17:55

Love the name Sawyer!!!
When I first read Loxley I thought it was a bit too unusual but as I kept reading the thread it started to sound good! Sometimes people just need a bit of time to get used to a name
XxX

Oysterbabe · 01/07/2016 18:01

I really like it and yes to Robin Hood. When I heard it the first thing I pictured was Alan Rickman snarling "Locksley!"
Spell it Loxley though.

OutsiderInTheGarden · 01/07/2016 18:01

I can see that it goes with Sawyer, but I'm afraid I don't like Loxley/Locksley at all, sorry OP. It doesn't sound like a first name, and it's quite harsh sounding to my ear. However, Loxley is better than Locksley which just looks cumbersome and even more like a surname. I like unusul names, but this one isn't a keeper in my book.
