Which spelling would you use and why?

Registering DD2 tomorrow and finally found a name DP, DD1 and I all like!

Amy.

Because it is the standard spelling. I personally just don't see the need to go for a more unusual spelling, people will always assume Amy is how it's spelt so to spell it another way means a lifetime of correcting the spelling.

I also think Aimee looks clunky and unnecessarily long, I don't think it looks nice and I think using è is pointless as it will almost always be forgotten or dropped.

VoldysGoneMouldy · 22/06/2016 20:54

Amy.

Accents never get used, and the alternate spelling will just mean a lifetimes worth of "and the spelling is..." and is a tad pretentious. The classic spelling is classic for a reason.

wallywobbles · 22/06/2016 20:58

Aimée is a completely different pronunciation. Aim-ay.

So Amy

Amy.

I have a name that has two ways to spell it. I have the slightly less common version and I spend my life saying 'Suzy with a Y'. It's irritating.

HahahahaFuckYou · 22/06/2016 21:05

how about aiymeeeey? ;)

DancingDinosaur · 22/06/2016 21:07

CodewordRochambeau · 22/06/2016 21:28

Amy unless you are French or live in France.

Simple, lovely name.

Raines100 · 22/06/2016 21:33

Another vote for Amy. I'm sure it'll be less hassle than Aimee, but don't be lulled into thinking it won't get misspelt. Be prepared to roll you eyes at Amie, Amey, Ami and even Amhey Confused

PootfrintsInTheSnow · 22/06/2016 21:36

I'm an Amy too Grin

strongswans · 22/06/2016 21:37

Another Amy vote here too, classic and pretty.

WhimsicalWinnifred · 22/06/2016 21:53

I'm an aimée and have a simole but for some reason must be spelt out surname and I feel like I spend 99 per cent of my day spelling my name and that's without mentioning the accent. I don't bother telling people to pronounce it the french way along with my french surname as it's simply too much. A guy even called me aim today as he thought the ée was silent. I repeat... he. Thought. The. ée . Was. Silent!!!!

Other than that I love that I can write "it's aimee" on a text message and everyone knows it is me. And that I can joke with people who are able to spell my name about the people that can't. The next person who writes amiee will get punched in the face.

WhimsicalWinnifred · 22/06/2016 21:54

Also aimée with no accent isn't correct so everyone who has one will be judging you to fuck.

Sophronia · 22/06/2016 22:00

Amy

MotheringShites · 22/06/2016 22:03

Amy looks nicer when handwritten too.

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 22/06/2016 22:04

Amy.
Aimee is just a bastardisation of aimée which is pronounced Aimay. If you want amy, go for amy.

PenguinsAreAce · 22/06/2016 22:05

Amy.

Aimee Either makes me want to pronounce it wrongly, or makes me think "take aim".

PatMullins · 22/06/2016 22:07

Amy.

Shesinfashion · 22/06/2016 22:08

Amy. Pretty, simple, classic.

signalred · 22/06/2016 22:10

Amy!!!!

Roomba · 22/06/2016 22:12

Amy!

signalred · 22/06/2016 22:13

I unexpectedly spelt my daughters name different than the traditional. Just had a baby name book, chose her name and chose a spelling. Frickin hate how it's not original though. She was 8 days old and we were just so pressured for a name. She's Madelyn not Madeline Confused
