Names like Hazel

Husband and I are really struggling with a name for our DD (due November)... thought we'd cracked it with Hazel but husband is now unsure!

We're looking for strong, non-cutesy names with a traditional feel that aren't too popular. Surname is three syllables and begins with A which puts a lot of A ending names out.

Any help hugely appreciated!

Hazel is lovely, it's so uncommon these days. However, it would be a bit odd if they had piercing blue eyes!

Oh also, totally agree about Hazel being odd with blue eyes... we have hazel eyes and red hair throughout our family so hoping she'll be the same! And born in autumn/winter too... sigh. You can see why I love Hazel so much!

I'm trying to think of the cadence to go with your three-syllable surname, and I think a two-syllable first name works quite well, as in
'dee-dee da-DA-da', (not the actual name Dee Dee ) if the emphasis in on the second syllable of your surname.

It's a 60-somethings name so something like Pauline or Brenda would be a Hazel's contemporaries.
