Opinion on the name Blake (for a boy)...

DS2 is a week old and still has no name. The only name on DH's shortlist is Blake. I'm not convinced, I'm not sure i like the 'bl' sound! I fear if we don't go with it, poor DS will forever remain nameless... what do you guys think of the name?

My lovely DS is Leo too! Fab name! I would go with Max - that was the name we had chosen for DD if she had been a boy.

TinyTear · 07/06/2016 20:18

Only if he will have seven friends and will try and save the galaxy ;-)

LadyMumble · 07/06/2016 20:21

I think Blake is a nice name. However it's you that has to like it and it doesn't sound as though you do. I hope that you and your dh find a name that you can both be happy with.

I remember that character lovelychops, I used to fancy him Blush

mygrandchildrenrock · 07/06/2016 20:25

I teach a Blake and he is a lovely little boy and I think it's quite a nice name.

NameChange30 · 07/06/2016 20:27

What about Jake?
Sounds similar but you might prefer J to Bl at the beginning?

LadyAntonella · 07/06/2016 20:29

I know a Drake who must be about 25 now. I'm not very keen on it either though...

frobskottle · 07/06/2016 20:33

Leo and Otto?
Leo and Isaac
Leo and Rex
Leo and Felix
Leo and Ellis

NameChange30 · 07/06/2016 20:37

Leo and Otto?! Grin Sounds ridiculous!

I quite like Rex and Felix although I associate them with dogs (Rex) and cats (Felix)

I like the similar-sounding name Dexter (the lovable serial killer)

What would you rather be, a dog, a cat or a serial killer?! Grin

WineSpider · 07/06/2016 20:41

Definitely not Blake. It doesn't complement Leo, whereas Max does as it is a similar style of name. It makes me think of Amy Winehouse shouting "my Blake incarcerated" when her ex was banged up. It's just a bit scally, sorry.

Torfhinn · 07/06/2016 20:48

Thanks for all the replies, I've told DH Blake is officially vetoed Smile

He has so far vetoed:

James - friends name
Joseph - religious
Adam - religious
Jake/Jacob - religious
Conor - no reason!
Edward - old fashioned
Daniel - boring
Dexter - friends' sons name
Rex/Felix - already have a 'cat' name
Noah - religious
Matthew/Matthias - doesn't like nn Matt
....I could go on!

He's on the fence about Max...but has now suggested Eli or Cade.

At least we've got 5 more weeks Grin

Orac?

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 07/06/2016 20:51

I love Eli but I think it sounds strange with Leo.

Cade...no.

Honestly, with all those lovely names DH has vetoed, I would be telling him to fuck off at this point!

Possible a bit strong and not conducive to a happy parenting relationship... But seriously!

The names he calls "religious" may be from the bible originally but they've become such classic names that they've lost their religious connotations (in this country at least).

He's crazy. If necessary you need to pull rank: you gave birth to the child!

NameChange30 · 07/06/2016 21:05

I like Eli but by his double standards he should be vetoing it for religious connotations

Hurricane99 · 07/06/2016 21:15

Caleb?

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 07/06/2016 21:16

Hmmm. Nothing too obviously religious. Tricky...

I love Eli but it is religious. Your DH sounds a lot like someone I know! No religious names were allowed, nor were any names which anyone in the current or recent Royal family has / had. They ended up with Alexander nn Xander which I think is just lovely so it all worked out. Smile

Torfhinn · 07/06/2016 21:46

Eli is out, so is Max Sad

Alex is good friends baby name.

DH is definitely anti-monarchy as well, so no George's or William's!

We've actually put watching GoT on hold to work on a name Grin

Blake and Cade are porn star names.

Try some other one-syllable, masculine names on him: otherwise, Max is lovely and goes wonderfully with Leo.
