Please rank these names for me :-)

Having seen your other kids' names I would say Ophelia or (not on your list) Alexandra.

TheDowagerCuntess · 03/06/2016 01:57

You don't HAVE to be posh to use any name, but some names mean a kid is more likely to have the piss taken than others if they aren't post.

Only by adults, who even realise this is a Thing! Not by other 5 or 6 year olds.

DD, 5, has a Cordelia in her class. Cordelia is a normal little girl, neither 'posh', nor un-posh.

5 year olds don't really have the first clue about such class hysteria, and besides, most classrooms these days are a veritable hot bed of piss-takeable names (again, only by adults). Not by the kids themselves, who are utterly used to the banality of it.

TheDowagerCuntess · 03/06/2016 02:00

P.S. Do you really have a Lysander and a Tatiana?!

SomeDaysIDontGiveAMonkeys · 03/06/2016 04:10

Good lord! Hmm

LadyAntonella · 03/06/2016 06:49

Claudia or Ophelia Smile

Least favourite are Aurelia and Cordelia.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 03/06/2016 07:35

Nina is lovely, simple, international, chic and cool. I think it works well as a youngest-child name :)

Aurelia is lovely - how about Aurora or Aurelie?

Not keen on Claudia, and Ophelia and Cordelia have too many Shakespearean bad vibes for my liking. How about Miranda or Isabella instead?

HeteronormativeHaybales · 03/06/2016 07:37

Oh, Alexandra and Cecilia (patron saint of music, I believe) are splendid.
I would have quite liked to use Thalia (muse of comedy).

Ikeameatballs · 03/06/2016 07:39

Cordelia with nn Cordy
Nina but agree it seems short compared with the others
Claudia though I think it's the most popular of your choices at the moment.
Aurelia
Ophelia

EllenDegenerate · 03/06/2016 07:52

How about Goneril?

julfin · 03/06/2016 08:00

I don't think Nina goes as well with your older DC's names as your other options do. It'll sound slightly as if you'd run out of inspiration.

PiledUpPenguins · 03/06/2016 08:42

I love Cecelia. That was on our list last time and I had completely forgotten about it. Thank you.

And to whoever asked, yes we have Tatiana and Lysander. We had T already and then Sandy was born on midsummers day so we had to do it!

Aurelia.

LadyAntonella · 03/06/2016 09:01

Is Cecelia in the running? If so, I love it. Also love, love, love Cecily.

user1463864877 · 03/06/2016 09:30

Cecilia or Ophelia all the way though they're all beautiful names OP

PiledUpPenguins · 03/06/2016 09:33

I do love Cecilia. My only issue is that Tatiana is often known as Tee-Tee. Cecilia would probably get shortened to Cece (Cee-Cee) and that too samey. Are there other abbreviations of Cecilia?

RiverTam · 03/06/2016 09:36

Claudia

Ophelia and Cordelia are too tragic Shakespearean heroine for me, thigh they're lovely names. Nina nice but doesn't go with the other DC. Aurelia is a bit stiff and formal.

LadyAntonella · 03/06/2016 09:40

Hmmmm it doesn't abbreviate all that well maybe...

Cess and Silly aren't great.

Illy maybe? Lee? Leah?

PiledUpPenguins · 03/06/2016 09:55

Yes I think that Cecilia is out for that reason. It's a shame as I adore it.

I still don't feel we have found the one although from my list I'm leaning towards Aurelia nn Rory.

OP posts:
LadyAntonella · 03/06/2016 09:58

I think it's been suggested already, but how about Aurora if you like nn Rory?

MumOnACornishFarm · 03/06/2016 10:12

I knew a child Cecilia (whose family, incidentally, was proper Times rich list posh) and she was called Sisi (not sissy) by her parents, siblings, and the, err, staff! Grin

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 03/06/2016 13:29

Alexandra was Atticus's sister in TKAM. ;-)
I quite like Tee tee and Sissy, it gives them another connection (My two have samey names but not quite but they are linked thematically). That said Lia is a nice nn.
I do know an Aurora, although prefer Aurelia, but if Rory is the nn then Aurora makes more sense. Aurelie with an accent on the e is also pretty.
Liliana?
Christiana?
Evangeline?
(not just been watching nanny mcphee oh no)

chiquita1 · 03/06/2016 13:32

Claudia (like me!!) Nina is horrible by the way, all the others are ok.

Rainbowqueeen · 03/06/2016 13:33

Claudia
Nina

None of the rest

PiledUpPenguins · 03/06/2016 14:24

Chiquita - I'm not sure it's correct to say any name is horrible. Names are a matter of taste. We like names because of our associations with them or because we are drawn to certain sounds. It's useful when people give reasons for their opinions like "I don't like Nina as it reminds me of a siren" or "Lysander makes you sound pretentious and show-off pseudo-intellectual" but just saying a name is horrible is sort of harsh and not terribly useful.

Penguins- Is your name Nina?? I am a Claudia and I have no problem with people saying is an ugly name which I am sure somebody must have said in this thread or in past threads. She asked for opinions, I think is an ugly name, where I come from it would be the name for a cat or dog. My husband is english and I told him I liked the name Bruno for a boy and he said that he had a dog called like that.
