I am wavering between commiting to and then suddenly disliking this name! Due any minute...help! What would be your thoughts on a child with this name? Thank you!

Don't watch eastenders so not too worried about that! Is this person even still in it?!

Absolutely beautiful name please use it.

SoThatHappened · 21/05/2016 16:27

Lettuce is a good nickname. Sounds just like it.

SoThatHappened · 21/05/2016 16:27

Or tissues or atishoo

orangebird69 · 21/05/2016 18:08

Yes OP, she is.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 21/05/2016 18:18

Would you use ae or æ (ash, in case it doesn't show)?

HouseOfBiscuits · 23/05/2016 09:12

A bit too sneezy.

ElaeudanlaTeiteia · 23/05/2016 09:21

To me it's quite French and chic. I think first of the actress Laetitia Casta.

My username is a reference to about a Laetitia Wink

1horatio · 23/05/2016 12:02

I really like it. I use Letitia or Letizia (but I took modern languages instead of Latin).
I also like Lettice :)

1horatio · 23/05/2016 12:02

I'd use... Oops :)

RiverCambs · 23/05/2016 14:50

I had a friend from France called Laeticia and it's pronounced La-tiss-ee-a Wink

BotanicalPJs · 29/05/2016 19:59

My first thought was Adams Family....wait that's Morticia

Doinmummy · 29/05/2016 20:05

I love it. It's was my Nan's name - shortened to Lettie. It's my DDs middle name but we spell it Leticia .

mathanxiety · 30/05/2016 06:52

I would use the Laetitia spelling. Or Letitia. Lovely name.

AppleMagic · 30/05/2016 07:01

I agree with pp that the "c" would be a hard c in Latin so that wouldn't be consistent with your reasoning for using the "ae". Not that it really matters if you prefer that spelling though.

WhiteMagnolia · 31/05/2016 18:09

Ok...might have been convinced for the t spelling! Does everyone think that the spelling laetitia is the least likely to end up with the lay tee sha pronunciation as that's what I'm aiming to avoid! I quite like the 'itsia' ending and even the Spanish 'z' spelling! I think I'm going to go for the name anyway...I'm 80% convinced...

These are my back ups!

Anouska
Antigone (love tiggy but aware this may be pushing the boundaries of pretentiousness!)
Liberty
Lowdy
Ottolie (2 a penny round here though)
Octavia
Minerva
Miranda
Tatiana
Marina
Cicely

If you want the 'itsia' sound, then go for the Spanish spelling (like the Spanish Queen).

I love all your backups except Lowdy, Ottilie and Octavia. Marina might be iffy thanks to the contraceptive coil of the same name.

How about Letizia Antigone?

CaoNiMao · 03/06/2016 06:33

I've never heard of Lowdy before! Is it Welsh? It's rather nice.

blueskyinmarch · 03/06/2016 06:58

I would pronounce all the variations mentioned as Leh tee sha. Sorry. Maybe it is a Scottish pronunciation thing.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 03/06/2016 07:41

I'd go for the 't' spelling.
Minerva and Miranda are fabulous. I think the coil is Mirena, which doesn't sound like Marina - also a lovely name. Anouska is nice. How about Saskia?

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 03/06/2016 07:51

I only really associate the name with the African American community as that's where I've mainly heard it being used, not that that's a negative connection in the slightest.

unicornthong · 04/06/2016 23:22

I really don't like Laetitia or any variant on the spelling tbh, plus she will get cards and letters addressed to all sorts. I have a very short name but people STILL misspell it so I dread to think how a Laetitia would fare.

From your other suggestions, I adore Octavia and Cicely. Do you like Genevieve?

mathanxiety · 05/06/2016 05:13

Weirdly, I have only ever heard the name Octavia in the African American community.

AddictedToCoYo · 05/06/2016 06:18

It's nice but it's spelt Laetitia and it's pronounced Leh-Tisha.

Either spell it and pronounce it properly or don't use it.

AddictedToCoYo · 05/06/2016 06:20

Oh sorry, see that you are planning to at least pronounce it properly if not spell it right!
