What do you think? Dated or classic?

I absolutely hate it really old fashioned and not at all suited to a 34 year old --I might be 34 and called Susan-!

BestIsWest · 01/05/2016 10:41

I quite like it. I'm 53 and about 25% of my friends are called Susan but I think it's cute for a little one. It will inevitable be shortened to Sue though.

BestIsWest · 01/05/2016 10:43

I really like Susie too.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 01/05/2016 10:44

Susie is lovely. I prefer Susannah to Susan.

ALaughAMinute · 01/05/2016 10:45

Not very classy and very dated IMO. Much prefer Susannah.

I really really love the name Susan. I'm biased as have a lovely aunt Sue but I also really like the nickname Susie and I think it's a classic name which is not overused. Go for it!

gillyginger · 01/05/2016 10:55

Lovely name, don't think it is boring ir dated, I think it is a very bookish name, in a nice way, Susan is always going off on a adventure Smile

MardleBum · 01/05/2016 11:39

I think Susan belongs in the same category as names like Hilary, Patricia, Pamela, Vera, Janet.

They conjure up images of a dowdy woman in her 60's who works on a supermarket checkout or in the bakers and has a husband called Trevor or Brian or Ron.

Not terribly aspirational really.

plimsolls · 01/05/2016 11:47

Are there such things as aspirational names? How would that work?

TutanKaDashian · 01/05/2016 12:05

Fine if you are giving birth to a fifty year old woman.....are you??

looki · 01/05/2016 13:29

Surely it is Alice who is always going on adventures?

What about Alice OP :-)

I would not like to be called SUSAN. It is so dowdy. It fits with names like Hilda, Vera, Eileen, Janet, Majella.

I like solid names rather than pretty names but Susannah is far nicer and prettier.

butteredmuffin · 01/05/2016 22:46

I'd also go for Susannah.

SanityClause · 01/05/2016 22:50

Susan reminds me of the sister from Swallows and Amazons. You know, the older, bossy one that always sent them off to bed early, and wrapped up boiled eggs in newspaper.

It's a bit stodgy and frumpy.

Sukie is a cute nickname, if you do decide to use it, though.

GinandRoses · 01/05/2016 22:53

I'm a 90s baby and went all through school with a Susie - none of us ever gave it a second thought.

borntobequiet · 01/05/2016 22:59

Majella?

borntobequiet · 01/05/2016 23:01

But Susan is a sweet name and deserves a revival.

FastWindow · 01/05/2016 23:04

I like Jane.

Jane likes Peter. Peter has a ball.

Jane and Peter think Susan is ordinary.

Wink
Beeziekn33ze · 02/05/2016 16:39

Peter and Jane are very old fashioned and out of touch.

murphyslaws · 02/05/2016 16:42

Bland! Boring! And old fashioned

Sorry

Beeziekn33ze · 02/05/2016 16:43

Oops - not the names, just the '60s kids.
Jane never seems to go completely out of fashion, especially as a second name or hyphenated. Or even joined up, Maryjane, Sarahjane.

Nanasueathome · 02/05/2016 16:46

Lovely- but then I am biased
Much prefer Susannah though

Beeziekn33ze · 02/05/2016 16:46

Plimsolls. There was a dad who named his kids Lady Jane and Lord Nigel as he thought it would help them in life. I wonder whether it did. I guess Tyson Fury's name was aspirational and it seems to have paid off.

manicinsomniac · 02/05/2016 18:34

I like it. My mum and aunt and dozens of their 50-60 year old contemporaries are Susans and I know a solitary one my age (early 30s) but none any younger.

I don't think that matters though. It's different and people would soon get over their surprise at a tiny Susan.

I teach a little Deborah which I see as being in the same group of names as Susan. Strange at first but seems totally normal now I know her.

lemonymelanie · 03/05/2016 19:30

well I like it! :-)

But I also like Mary and Claire at the moment.

And I agree with the person upthread who thinks Pamela is due a revival - I think it is very pretty.

I think you should go for Susan. I think it has a lovely soothing sound.
