Ty or Tai? Reece or Rhys?

Hi,

Never thought of joining a parenting site before, but I am due a little boy. We need some help with the spelling of his name.

We are going for Ty-Reece/Tai-Reece/Ty-Rhys/Tai-Rhys.

Which one would you pick?

Thank you all, we spend 7 months thinking of a name, so glad we have one, but now the bloody spelling!

If I heard it id automatically guess at the spelling Tyrese.

Out of your options, Ty-Reece. I think all the other options will result in mispronunciation from time to time. :)

Ty is the Welsh word for house (pronounced tee) so I wouldn't team it with the Welsh spelling Rhys. It would translate as Rhys's house!

Tyreece is perfectly fine by the way.

I've only seen/heard it as tyrese any particular reason you want it as 2 separate names? Just seems to be over complicating things.

I'm with Vince. Why do they need to be hyphenated? They are two separate names. And they will just be blended into a single name, as they're both 'sound' names.

Rhys by itself, however, is nice. And YY to the point about Ty meaning house.

Also keep in mind that you kid's name will automatically spelled Tyrese and having to correct people all the time.

How about Ty with rhys as a middle name ? Like Ty Pennington, he suits his name very well.

Ty Burrell's a Tyler.

I like Ty actually. Sounds friendly.

Another Welsh one here who would say Ty as Tee. I have taught a Tye said as Tie.

Oh dear, op. Most Mumsnet boys are called Conrad or Jolyon. I think you might get a hard time for your choice.

OP - They're both lovely names, but yes, if you use both, it'll just get spelled Tyrese. Which is also perfectly nice, and would just seem a lot easier for everyone.

Ty is Breton for house. Ty Loïc means Loïc's House and Ty Braz means Big House, for instance.

For that matter, Tigh is Scottish Gaelic for house. Irish speakers will be able to say whether they use the same word.

Some words are very similar in most or all of the Celtic languages.

Anyway, back to the OP's suggested names, in Welsh "tai" is the plural of "tŷ", so although it would indeed be pronounced like "tie" (i.e. the neckwear, with Rhys it would mean "Rhys' houses".

To me, Tyrese looks like a girls name, like Terese.

From your options I would probably choose Ty-Reece.
