Hi,

Never thought of joining a parenting site before, but I am due a little boy. We need some help with the spelling of his name.

We are going for Ty-Reece/Tai-Reece/Ty-Rhys/Tai-Rhys.

Which one would you pick?

Thank you all, we spend 7 months thinking of a name, so glad we have one, but now the bloody spelling!

Another Welsh person, Ty=tee to me.

Tyrell is better than your current list.

ShmooBooMoo · 28/04/2016 00:43

Same as Vince, I think they're all dreadful, sorry.

ShmooBooMoo · 28/04/2016 00:48

Squashybanana: my dislike of those names has nothing to do with a snobbish attitude, for me, anyway. I just think they are all awful, really awful. If I were male I would hate to be called any of those names.

SingaSong12 · 28/04/2016 01:11

I like the name Rhys. I haven't come across Tai or Ty.

I have a hyphenated first name and it is a bit frustrating at times - some places treat it as a first and middle name, others use the hyphen and it remains one name. There are a few forms that don't allow me to put in a hyphen at all, those these are pretty rare. Neither part of my first name is a common surname but I think Reece/Rhys are so he may get mail to Mr T. Reece the his proper surname.
The only other thing is to check how the name or first name initial sounds with the surname.

WindPowerRanger · 28/04/2016 02:19

Tai Rhys. No hyphen.

RortyCrankle · 28/04/2016 13:37

Awful so none of them.

DerelictMyBalls · 28/04/2016 13:44

Tyrese.

I strongly dislike hyphenated names for boys (outside of France or French-speaking countries).

ems942 · 28/04/2016 14:21

Blush very close to Terese or Theresa

Veterinari · 28/04/2016 14:26

Tai Rhys
No hyphen. Unnecessary over complicated and feminine.

Can you really imagine a 40 year old man called ty-Reece?

EmmaGellerGreen · 28/04/2016 14:31

Ty and Tai are more a collection of letters than name and equally dreadful. Rhys and Reece, both ok.

thatstoast · 28/04/2016 14:44

Are you Welsh or is that a coincidence?

Squashybanana · 28/04/2016 18:36

School, I never said it was snobbish. Just a very different prevailing naming set of choices. Sometimes Mumsnet can be a bit harsh on excited expectant parents, that's all.

WaitrosePigeon · 29/04/2016 00:03

None. They are very bad and quite embarrassing to be honest. Sorry.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 29/04/2016 00:07

I may be spouting nonsense but isn't there a Shakespearean character that's from Tyreseus? It makes me think of that.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 29/04/2016 00:10

Oops. It seems to be Oedipus related and be spelt Tiresias. The blind seer. But that's still what I'd think of.

BackforGood · 29/04/2016 00:35

I don't like the name myself, but if you are certain you want him to be called Tyrese, then just use the correct spelling.

Vixxfacee · 30/04/2016 14:24

Thai Rhys

TheCatsMeow · 30/04/2016 14:35

Tyrese but if you want it hyphenated, Ty-Reece.

KoalaDownUnder · 30/04/2016 14:38

Is Ty / Tai actually a name?

It's an awful name, anyway. Sorry, but you did ask. Sad

VinceNoirLovesHowardMoon · 30/04/2016 14:41

Thai Rhys
Like Welsh Charlie or Spanish Bob

KoalaDownUnder · 30/04/2016 14:44

Genuine lol (more like 'snort', actually) at Spanish Bob. Grin

CrystalMcPistol · 30/04/2016 15:20

Rhys is a lovely name!

As for Ty or Tai I'm not wild about either but would go for Ty.

BeckyWithTheMediocreHair · 30/04/2016 15:31

Tiresias was an interesting chap. A blind seer who was turned into a woman for seven years of his life and managed to marry and bear children before being turned back into a man.

Vixxfacee · 30/04/2016 15:44

I think Thai is a really nice name. However I am in the minority and would never call my child George, Elizabeth or Ptolemy

We are all from different backgrounds and cultures.

fluffiphlox · 30/04/2016 15:48

Stick with Rhys which is actually a name where I come from. Your alternatives are dreadful.
