Henry
Daniel
Edward

Thoughts or alternatives most welcome!

Henry or Edward.

MadisonAvenue · 26/04/2016 12:47

Daniel or Thomas

MrsHathaway · 26/04/2016 12:54

I think they're all lovely.

My order from "best" to "only good" would be:

Edward
Daniel
Henry
Thomas
David

ABitAsleep · 26/04/2016 12:56

Edward is my favourite!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 26/04/2016 12:57

I'm really loving Daniel at the mo, so I'd pick that!

Frazzled2207 · 26/04/2016 13:07

Daniel.
I wanted it but dh vetoed.Angry

ChablisTyrant · 26/04/2016 13:08

Daniel or Edward

Scattymere · 26/04/2016 13:29

all very run of the mill/play it safe/ heard for 30 years everywhere names. Not exciting/individual at all but nice enough.

Gummibaers · 26/04/2016 13:49

I find them all a little dull and overused. If I had to choose one it would be David, which isn't that widely used today and yet is a strong classic name. So my vote goes to David.

TristanlovesIsolde · 26/04/2016 14:15

Thank you. And thanks for your honesty Scatty and Gummi.

Edward Thomas and Daniel are my favourites.

autumnmoon · 26/04/2016 14:21

All fine, my personal order of preference would be...

Thomas
Henry
Edward
Daniel
David

WhiteHairReally · 26/04/2016 14:23

David, as PP says, good strong name and there are very few younger Davids around at the moment. ( and nothing to do with the fact I so fancied one when I was about sixteen, and still have a soft spot for the name all these years later)

DerelictMyBalls · 26/04/2016 14:39

Thomas or Daniel.

TheNaze73 · 26/04/2016 14:46

I think they're all solid names, that will all be shortened in school & the rugby pitch by his peers, as he gets older. David for the full name, Ed for best when shortened.

DramaAlpaca · 26/04/2016 14:50

All lovely names. You really can't go wrong with any of them from your list.

I'd probably vote for David, simply because it's probably the least popular these days, closely followed by Daniel.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 26/04/2016 14:51

They're all fine (I allowed myself a little :) as, taken together, they do read rather like a Thomas the Tank Engine cast list - but all fine names) but my vote goes to David - underused these days, as a pp said, but a lovely, simple classic name.

LemonBreeland · 26/04/2016 14:52

Thomas - wet, really don't liek this name
Henry - Okay
Daniel - overused for the past 30 years
Edward - classic, quite like this
David - boring

Marginalia · 26/04/2016 14:57

Agree about the Thomas the Tank Engine cast!

They're all grand, OP, and there genuinely isn't a pin to choose between them, because they're all stolid, safe classics. Your son will definitely never stand out among his peers because of his name, which is presumably why you've chosen them. Unless his peer group all turn out to be called Ace, Ptolemy, and River. Or unless you're choosing a safe classic first name because your surname is Sidebottom-bboggs. Grin

TristanlovesIsolde · 26/04/2016 15:01

Grin Literally laughed out loud about Thomas the Tank Engine! Only really a problem if you have five DSs and call them that I suppose. Surname is a mouthful to be honest which doesn't help!

A memorable surname does make a plain first name prudent.

Edward is on the up, so your son would be more likely to be known as Edward S-B than David S-B. I don't know if that's a consideration, and of course there's no guarantee either way. Looking at the ONS charts would give you an idea but you've no true picture of what's happening in your catchment.

My eldest is called Adam - there were three Adams in our bay on the postnatal ward, the other baby being a girl ... but I'm not sure we've met another since. Just how things go!

CremeBrulee · 26/04/2016 15:20

All lovely names.

I clicked on the thread in trepidation expecting another lot of try-too-hard names like Peregrine, Lancelot, Florian or Lysander.

Top choices OP!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 26/04/2016 15:27

I only like Thomas and David, but prefer Tom rather than Thomas

TempsPerdu · 26/04/2016 15:45

All perfectly nice - and all a bit too popular for me, but that's just a taste thing! Smile Can't go wrong with any of them, but personally I'd go for either Edward or Daniel.

booface · 26/04/2016 15:54

I would say as a mum of two teenage boys, whatever you call your son, be sure you like the shortened form as they seem to get called that once they start secondary school, no matter how you introduce them.

Eg if you have a Samuel he will be Sam, a Daniel will be Dan, etc.

I have a Daniel and other parents at the first parents night at senior school were asking me how Dan was getting on, and I must say it took me quite a while to cotton on who they were even talking about... so do be prepared for that!
