Hi, dh is very keen on Brock (with traditional middle name). Has anyone called their ds Brock and are you still in love with the name? I do like it and imaging a lovely, gentle, fun little boy but worry if it's a little too unusual?
Thanks Grin

I didnt link the negatives like that Bert, thinking nice little boy/ grown man and Britain's largest (living) carnivore which isn't a bad thing to me. I guess it's like lions aren't bad (although once in a badger release I ended up involved in a -not so good- collegue hadn't secured the transport boxes properly and I ended up in a car with a rather strong grumpy large adolescent badger! An interesting day! Lol! Anyway, it wasn't my choice so it's not a 'oh I'd like to call him this because I love animals' thing, DH is liking it and he really hasn't had much to do with badgers... Grin. I I think it's like Antsmarching, he knew a really nice Brock growing up.

Badger.

BaronessBomburst · 17/04/2016 14:05

I would think badger, raise an eyebrow and judge the parents.
Sorry.

VinceNoirLovesHowardMoon · 17/04/2016 14:06

It's just not a very nice sound. Brock. Why?

Xmasbaby11 · 17/04/2016 14:09

I've never heard of it as a boy's name. I think the image is aggressive and American.

Lucked · 17/04/2016 14:12

I actually like it, it sounds a bit alternative but in a good way, and I disagree with it being a bad sound. I think it is rare to end up disliking the name of your child because you fall in love with them and they become the name.

BikeRunSki · 17/04/2016 14:12

Badger
Scouts - the leaders of our local Scouts are named after woodland animals. Area head chap is known as Brock.
Never heard of it as a first name.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 17/04/2016 14:14

I know a dog called Brock - I think it's a great name, but for an animal not a human.

Raines100 · 17/04/2016 14:20

Makes me think of Eddie Brock that turned into Venom, the evil Spider-Man (I have 2 DSs)

RattieOfCatan · 17/04/2016 14:24

Makes me think of pokemon. Sorry! I do like it though.

CiderwithBuda · 17/04/2016 14:28

I know it as a surname. Don't mind it as a first name though. I think it depends on your surname.

Floralnomad · 17/04/2016 14:36

I also think badger and my next thought is it is a bit harsh sounding and then I would wonder if it was short for something else as it sounds a bit incomplete on its own .

Sophronia · 17/04/2016 14:37

Don't like it. It sounds like the name a stereotypical American 'jock' would have, like Chad or Bret.

MargotLovedTom · 17/04/2016 14:39

Aren't St Bernard, for example, dogs bigger than badgers? How is the badger Britain's largest carnivore? Confused

kittentits · 17/04/2016 14:46

.

Does anyone have a Brock, and what are your thoughts?
tabulahrasa · 17/04/2016 14:49

"Aren't St Bernard, for example, dogs bigger than badgers? How is the badger Britain's largest carnivore?"

You don't tend to find st Bernard's in the wild...

RortyCrankle · 17/04/2016 14:53

a badger, not a name for a person.

WutheringFrights · 17/04/2016 14:57

I'm obviously very much in the minority but I like it.
I thought badger first but it doesn't putme off it as a name.

In my experience it's best to ignore what others think if you are happy with a name.

I asked on MN about DS name, pretty much everyone said don't use it, so I used it and we never have negative reacions to our faces

FellOutOfBedTwice · 17/04/2016 15:00

Before I saw this was on the baby name board I thought by "does anyone have a Brock?" You must have been referring to a type of fridge or cooker or pram. Not a name for a baby.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 17/04/2016 15:06

Brock the Badger!

Mind you I doubt his peers will know those books so I doubt he'll get teased for that alone.

EachandEveryone · 17/04/2016 15:09

It's from Breaking Bad.

Kafeeundkuchen · 17/04/2016 15:09

Thanks everyone for your honest opinions, I'll show dh this thread later.
. Wuthering- I'm intrigued, what's your dc's name?

Margot- I mean wild animal, quite a few dog breeds are larger than badgers but they're domesticated. We had wolves and bears once, but they're no longer classed as native to the uk in the wild.
