Would you give your child your first name as a middle name?

Giving your child your middle name seems quite common, or another relatives first name as a middle name. But I never seem to hear of parents giving a child their first name as a middle name?

I think it’s nice to keep family names going.

I did, yes.

I'm pregnant now and thinking of doing this. I'm surprised to find people so many people don't like this though I think I'd secretly been worried people would think it was arrogant !

My mum's name is my middle name and she has her mum's name as a middle name. I always loved that tradition and as I kid I said I'd pass on my name to a daughter. I love my first name and it is a popular name to have in double barrel first names so I think it sounds natural with all of the girls names we like (it doesn't begin with C by the way, that's just my username!).

Because we will be double barrelling our second name, it would mean if we have a girl her name will be: First Name - My First Name - My Last Name - Husband's Last Name and I thought it might sound strange to have both my first name and second name inside her name but then there are so many traditions around handing on men's names, I also think women should get a bit more a look in!

I almost did with one DD but changed my mind at the last minute. The name she ended up with was also a 'family name', and I used family names for all the other DCs too.

My middle name is my mums name and my brother has my dads name. I think my mums name/my middle name works well as a middle name and I hope to use as a middle name if I have a daughter.

I think it really depends on the name. I don't see my first name fitting as a middle name with any girl first names that I know I like. Whereas my mums name is one of those names that work well with most names as a middle name.

My husband has his dad's name as a middle name, so we're planning to use husband's name as our son's middle name to carry on the tradition.
Plus we like how it sounds and it saves us from choosing one side of the family over the other eg for a grandparent name.
