I really love this name for dc4 but I know through searching previous threads on here its very disliked... 🤔

Still the case?

I can't see how it's 'uglier' than Aurora or something like that..

Just wondered your thoughts?

😀

Thanks x

Albertine was on my shortlist for DC2- after Viv Albertine of The Slits. I really like it, don't think it's an ugly name at all, or weird.

Floggingmolly · 23/03/2016 19:11

That was my mother's excuse for calling me Petunia, lavender. Wink

Floggingmolly · 23/03/2016 19:12

If you wanted to call your child after Viv Albertine, wouldn't you call them Viv?

mrsschu · 23/03/2016 19:13

I assume it's a girl's name?! I don't like it at all, all I hear is "Albert" which is fusty sounding IMO. I like Aurora on the other hand...

BennyTheBall · 23/03/2016 19:13

I think it is very ugly indeed.

Lunar1 · 23/03/2016 19:24

It sounds like you wanted to call a boy Albert, had a girl and just stuck a bit on the end. Of course if I actually met someone with the name I'd get used to it after saying it a few times.

It just sounds clunky on first impression.

MrsMarigold · 23/03/2016 19:27

WTF?

Mag314s · 23/03/2016 19:30

I prefer it to aurora.
i cant say aurora. My face contorts like im speaking a new and very difficult language

kelda · 23/03/2016 19:33

Mag - many people can't say Aurora!

Alba is far nicer then Albertine.

lavenderpekins · 23/03/2016 20:00

That is one concern I have lunar1 except I wouldn't use Albert if I was having a boy.. 😁

If it's a boy I like;

Gabriel
Monty
Willoughby

And my favourite: Cassius. But I already have one of those 😊

Albertine is a brilliant name!

(Not a fan of Viv Albertine's music, though. What a rotten guitarist!)

Pipilangstrumpf · 24/03/2016 07:03

I love Albertine! And Amandine!

I know a little Leooldine but find that a little long and clumsy.

To the poster who suggested we only choose names already popular, now that would be really dull! And a pain as we'd need surname initials to identify them all...

Pipilangstrumpf · 24/03/2016 07:04

Sorry Leopoldine

MrsCaecilius · 24/03/2016 08:24

Love it. Also reminds me of the lovely climbing rose. I think Bertie as a nn is sweet too!

IoraRua · 24/03/2016 14:43

I think it's ugly and clunky sounding. I have the same feelings towards Albert.

centigrade451 · 24/03/2016 15:15

I think it is an exquisite name - but likely to be shortened to something not so nice like 'Bertie' or 'Tina' or 'Al'. It would make sense if there is an Albert to be named after.

Jessbow · 24/03/2016 15:33

depends to an extent on the names of DC's 1, 2 & 3.
If you have a Hugo, Penelope and a Beatrice already, then yes I guess Albertine fits.

if on the other hand you have a Poppy a Daisy and a Scarlett it doesn't.

timelytess · 24/03/2016 15:40

I might be wrong but wasn't the mother of Our Lady of the Flowers called Albertine? Maybe it was Ernestine. Its forty years since I read Genet. But that was what came to mind. There's nothing wrong with referencing French homosexual literature in your children's names. In fact, you could make it a theme. First Communion might make a nice name for another girl.

I had a pupil named Faustine. That's a nice name.

MamaMotherMummy · 24/03/2016 16:59

I love it. Also love Leontine

BendydickCuminsnatch · 24/03/2016 20:28

I MUCH prefer Alberta. I know a little one nn Bertie 😍

albertcampionscat · 24/03/2016 20:49

I like it. Promiscuous bisexual in Proust.

kittylh · 25/03/2016 17:40

I know of one Albertine, and I always thought it was a little odd but interesting. I can't really imagine saying it out loud - it sounds weird coming out of my mouth. I do really like Alba as a nn though!

villainousbroodmare · 27/03/2016 13:34

An unsubtle feminisation of the dowdiest boys' name I can think of. A firm no from me.

eatmytoes888 · 29/03/2016 12:53

I like it and considered it, I love to hear an unusual, pretty name and it reminds me of the roses that grew around my house. The - ine ending is very feminine.
