Thoughts on Wren?

DH thinks it's ridiculous! But I think it's pretty.

He thinks it looks made up?! And if pushed would prefer the spelling Ren, which is a Japanese name and not really what I had in mind!

Others I we are considering are Alice and Nora. We already have an Isobel and a Dexter.

We haven't even started on boys' names yet. DH is a nightmare with coming up with anything and prefers the approach where I do all the thinking and he sits there and makes faces whilst I make suggestions Hmm

I know a child with middle name Wren. I don't love it, but Alice and Nora! Great names! To me Wren sounds a bit chicken-y. Do you know what I mean? Sort of clucky/birdy. I like your style though, have you considered:
Scout
Piper
Harper
Bea
Dixie
???

OohMavis · 15/03/2016 10:07

Ooh I don't know, I love birdy names Blush

I love Piper, it was a name I was considering for DD.

I love love love love wren! Such a beautiful name!

BikeRunSki · 15/03/2016 10:13

I like it best of your three, and I'm called Alice!

srslylikeomg · 15/03/2016 10:14

My post should read: I like it, but I don't love it. The name Wren is really pretty, but I would personally beware of bird names. Although... Now I consider it Sparrow, Harris, Robin are actually all great! Grin

Getit · 15/03/2016 10:16

I love it

GoodEggy · 15/03/2016 10:16

Wren is lovely and not made up at all, it's a bird. Prettier than Alice or Nora too.

Jw35 · 15/03/2016 10:17

It's cute but I prefer more traditional names. Not keen on Nora but Alice is ok.

NovaArt3mis · 15/03/2016 10:18

Wren and Nora are both on my longlist (ttc not pg yet) along with Ivy, Arya and Quinn.

I love them. And Alice is lovely too. Good luck winning DH over!

BeStrongAndCourageous · 15/03/2016 10:19

Wren is lovely, was on my list for DD - but then someone on here asked whether she was likely to have a "wren-like" build and I realised that no, she wasn't.

She was born on the 98th percentile for weight and length and has followed that line. She wouldn't suit Wren at all.

She's also quite clumsy and uncoordinated so I'm glad I didn't go with one of my other favourites - Grace!

CrystalMcPistol · 15/03/2016 10:39

It's a bit hipster-y but I like it despite that! Grin

I also like Ren/ée.

JeanGenie23 · 15/03/2016 10:44

I love Wren, it was on shortlist for DD but we chose my grandma's name instead.

I liked it because it wasn't over the top girly and frilly.

I also liked

Robin
Lois
Nancy
Betsy
Dorothy
Marla

Coldtoeswarmheart · 15/03/2016 10:50

I'm with your DH on this one, sorry.

Sophronia · 15/03/2016 11:07

Alice Wren would be lovely

cornishglos · 15/03/2016 13:35

Wren. Pretty bird. Not a pretty name.

Madbengalmum · 15/03/2016 13:37

I think it is very pretty and would suit any age group.

centigrade451 · 15/03/2016 16:40

I agree with your DH. I am not sold on naming a child after a small bird. It has no meaning.

I always think a name has to have a meaning that is special and reflects what you want for the child.

Renée is a nice name.

I love the name Dorothy - it means gift of god.

NameAgeLocation · 15/03/2016 16:42

I know a Ren(ée). I'd not go for Wren. Could do without a lifetime of "That's Wren with a W".

juniperdingleberries · 15/03/2016 16:42

I think it's taking old fashioned names to the extreme. Nice for a bird, not for a person!

Wheelerdeeler · 15/03/2016 16:44

Are you having a bird?

Helmetbymidnight · 15/03/2016 16:45

I don't like it but then I've got a bit of a bird look about me and it would have been a disaster Grin

albertcampionscat · 15/03/2016 19:49

Worse if you're 6 foot and 15 stone surely?

Helmetbymidnight · 15/03/2016 19:54

Ha! Yeah, neither are great.

Monica101 · 15/03/2016 19:58

I hesitate to say go for it, as I agree it's one of those names which would only suit a delicately built person.

It is a lovely name but for the right person.
