Is Posy more of a "real" name than Poppy?

Not even pg but last time I loved the name Poppy but just couldn't shake the feeling it was a bit cutesy for a grown up and not quite a "proper" name. (Don't mean to insult any Poppy parents, just my feeling). Also loved Penelope but DH vetoed it.

Heard Posy yesterday and for some reason I think this would be much more acceptable on a grown woman but i don't know why! Maybe coz it's like Rosie?

Thoughts?

Posy was one of The Flumps, along with Perking and Pootle.

It does not sound grown up at all.

I think Posy is less useable than Poppy (sorry) unless it's a nn for Josephine.

Rosie-Posie is nn for babies only.

To me it's even less credible and on my list of try to hard names sorry

When I hear the name Posy I always think of Ballet Shoes, 'Her name is Posie. Unfortunate but true.'

The little girl in the story Ballet Shoes is called Posy, and Posy Simmons the cartoonist and writer has done very well with the name. I believe Posy is short for her official name of Rosemary but she's always gone by Posy.

Although I also love Poppy and Penny, both lovely names.

I think as an adult i'd rather be called Posy than Poppy but I have to say i'd rather have an elegant serious name than either of them.

I think Poppy sounds more grown up than Posh.

Posy is awfully cutsie for anyone beyond the age of twelve or so. As an adult I'd hate to have that kind of name, it'd make me cringe everytime I met someone knew and had to introduce myself. It can be a nickname for Josephine though, although I much prefer Josie.

DD goes by Posey, short for Josephine, but she is only 10 months and I never introduce her as Posey. I don't think we'll use it as she gets older, but it suits her now as she's all round and pink. We liked Josephine as there are so many potential diminutives - Posey, Jo, Josie, Seph - as she gets older

I am another who thinks "unfortunate, but true" about Posy. Sweet as a nn on a small baby, slightly silly on an adult woman.

No, I think Poppy is much more grown up. There's a Posy at a group I go to and I did think I couldn't imagine that on a grown up.

But then I had a word with myself and realised there are plenty of baby names I could say the same about, and by the time all the Posys of today are grown up it will be a perfectly normal name for a grown up.

Posy is very cutesy and probably wouldn't suit a grown woman too well. Poppy is better (I know on on her late 30's and it suits her). Posy also reminded me of Ballet Shoes...

I don't find Poppy cutesy at all - it's quite a hard sound, when you think about it.

Posy, on the other hand, is a saccharine sing-song nickname type name (usually starting off as Rosy-posy or Josie-posy) and I can think of few names that sound more twee.

I went to school with a Fleur Posy (I kid you not). Went by Posy. Didn't seem unusual to any of us kids.

Much nicer then poppy.
