Is it too old-fashioned? Possibly the NN Dot/Dotty Smile

I actually meant Dottie! Blush

I don't like it at all.

Dotty means crazy.

Dorothy is just not a pretty name, sorry.

letsgetcake · 26/02/2016 17:17

I love it. I think it's making a come back along side a lot of names from that generation. And dottie is cute for when little

Sophronia · 26/02/2016 17:39

I like it! Dottie is cute. I also like Dora/Dorrie and Dolly.

ADogCalledLamb · 26/02/2016 17:46

Very sweet! I love Dolly too

thebiscuitindustry · 26/02/2016 19:27

I like Dorothy, but not Dot (a spot), Dotty (mad) or Dolly (a toy).

Dorothea with nickname Thea would be nice IMO.

EachandEveryone · 26/02/2016 19:28

Love it. Love Dot so much

JudgeJudySheindlin · 26/02/2016 22:55

No!

Don't like the shortened versions of the name either & believe there are thousands of names much better than this one

julfin · 27/02/2016 09:23

I agree with biscuit that Dorothea is a good option - it's prettier than Dorothy in my opinion, less old-fashioned, and gives a better choice of nicknames. If she wants to become Thea when she's older she can.

I'd steer clear of Dottie (crazy). And I can't say Dot without hearing "Great Aunt..." in the back of my head.

CutYourHairAndGetAJob · 27/02/2016 09:24

I love it because it makes me think of the wizard of oz! I like Dora as a nn.

HeyMicky · 27/02/2016 09:29

I love it. DD1 has it as a middle name after my grandmother. My grandmother went by Dodie. I also know one mid 30s who is a very steady, independent woman, and who goes by Dot

AuntJane · 27/02/2016 18:31

An observation for later life. An email address of Dot dot Surname @ .....

TurboTheChicken · 27/02/2016 18:34

I have a four year old Dorothy so I am biased but I think it's a beautiful under used name and it suits my DD.

We did think she'd be a Dot but she's 100% Dorothy.

Obviously some people are not so keen!

srslylikeomg · 27/02/2016 18:37

Love it.

TheWiseOldElf · 27/02/2016 18:46

I have a 2 yr old Dorothy known as Dotty or Dot (or sometimes the Dotster). She is totally crazy and full on and it suits her so much.

My older DD has a name which meets with almost universal approval (except on here sometimes) so we were a bit apprehensive about choosing a name which we knew divided opinions but we love it.

We know a Dora and a Thea so wouldn't have chosen Dorothea. I also think that's a bit of a mouthful and quite clumsy sounding. I'm not sure why lots of people on here seem to prefer it to Dorothy Confused

foxessocks · 27/02/2016 18:53

I love Dorothy but unfortunately my dh doesn't. My nanna was a Dorothy and she had he nickname Dolly.

StubbleTurnips · 27/02/2016 18:58

DH vetoed Dorothy here. I love it.

readerinthechair · 27/02/2016 19:07

I only dislike it because it's my spiteful sister in Law's name Grin

Canyouforgiveher · 27/02/2016 19:10

Not a pretty name imo. and Dot, Dottie and Dodie sound awful imo. I'm not a fan of Dora either.

I love Dorothea though- especially nn Thea. Doro might's be bad as a nn.

I have an aunt Dorothy and was almost called that myself.

merseyside · 27/02/2016 19:14

Love it.

I wanted a Dorothea, nickname Doro

Had a boy...

Loqo · 27/02/2016 19:24

I think it's a lovely name. It is pretty and strong. It makes me think of The Wizard of Oz which is a good thing.

HippyPottyMouth · 27/02/2016 19:28

I like it. My Great-Auntie Dot was quite a character so I have good associations with it. DH wouldn't even agree to it for the cat, though.

poocatcherchampion · 27/02/2016 19:32

I love it!

buddy79 · 27/02/2016 21:21

Dorothea is nicer I think. I can see Dot working as a nickname though, not so keen on Dottie.

crispytruffle · 29/02/2016 11:34

I know someone with a toddler called Dotty and I have to say I don't like it because it reminds me of someone acting slightly crazy!
